I really like that picture, but the bottom line is not having money would suck the life out of your hobbies because now you know said job has to make you money or you're royally screwed. That's why you should have one of those default jobs, but still find time for your hobby, too. That way, if you make it big with your passion, you can just abandon the bullshit job you have and live with what you love. That's my plan for writing.
I actually plan on doing a double major in creative writing and computer sciences. Kinda like doctors, computers are so popular right now. With technological advancements, knowing your way around one can not only get you a job with a salary, but you can also do side things for neighbors and stuff where you just fix their tech for them. I'm lucky enough to have been in an accident when I was younger and the resulting lawsuit has given me 50k to play around with. Not to mention my straight A's throughout high school, and the fact that I'm in foster care, which I've been told will allow me some financial aid. It's kind of sad though, the fact that you have to have a terrible childhood or a spoiled one to really make it far in college without taking too many loans.
I think my one issue is I need work experience. Honestly, I haven't worked a day in my life in a place where I get a paycheck and stuff. I tried to do it in the summer but I had no luck. I also need experience for the computers. I have an entire flash drive full of 60+ writing and like 30-40 more of them in my computer in the last two years, so I have a pretty bulky portfolio of sorts that will give me experience for creative writing. However, I don't really know what kind no-experience job you can do in computers to have that experience to get a nice job. Or is that the kind of thing you should do after you get your degree?
