Also, I've finally been convinced to give stand-up a try. Spend at least a year writing a good set.

Do itttttt. And remember, my stand up is the low bar. Like the LOWEST of bars. What I showed you wasn't even comedy, it was just how my fucking day was. I cringe when I hear it.

I don't know where it is. It's in the endless abyss of the chat thread somewhere, but it was shitty anyway. I tried to do observational humor based off what had happened that day and it bombed. I'd pulled it off a few times before but the crowd was small and picky that night. A lot of people got awkward claps and silences. I wish I had been recording the first night I ever did stand up at that place. It was a full crowd and I went for a few one liners slipped in with some awkward moments people could relate to and killed it compared to the one I had recorded.
No seriously if anyone does find the link on here, it's really not very funny at all. I've done, and could do, way better than that. I have school monday nights now so I cant go anymore, but I might try it again in the summer.

I would look through thousands of pages of forum messages but I think I would somehow have an easier time using google and it's 4:15 A.M. So I'm going back to bed (I have a problem with almost always waking up in the middle of the night but it's nothing compared to those with insomnia.)
It's cool though that you did standup! I could never do it because I would never have much material and I don't do crowds and stages. Parties I can deal because I'm not the center of attention. Good luck on your Goals Cruel!

To me the biggest worry is that you're completely at the mercy of other people. If they don't like the jokes, you can't say "fuck it, I'll shut up" like you can with your friends, or go take a break. You have to stay on stage and finish. Thats terrifying. There is also the fact that some people may not 'get' what you're saying, and that leads to even more awkwardness.

Death to Zman, kill the little slut.

Envoy does stand-up too. Dunno when he'll be online again, but you should talk to him.

Oh if you want an example of that then I have to find that recording somewhere. It's literally just that. Honestly you have to go up there with the expectation that you suck and nobody is going to laugh, then when anybody does, you build some more confidence in yourself. I have no stage fright whatsoever, and I personally am so used to awkward moments that they don't even phase me at this point.
I've said a few jokes that fly over peoples head, like a pun or play on words, and then you'll see like 2 people get it and chuckle when they do. It's honestly a really fun hobby and you get better at it the more you do it.
Based on the jokes you constantly make on here, writing material will be no problem for you. Before you go up, you need to establish a character for yourself, an identity for people to identify with. The same way that Bill Burr is the "angry ginger" or Bryan Regan is the "Expressive dumb white guy". I went melancholic sarcastic guy, and another simply doing observational humor based off ridiculous things that happened while I worked at partycity.
It's a lot of fun, and the identity helps but isnt necessarily required. Just know that some nights you WILL bomb, but thats ok! It's all just to have fun anyway.

The personal character I generally lean towards when I tell stories is "Sharp-tongued ranter", which is a persona I often adopt on Stickpage too.
I'm thinking of opening the set by talking about how I can't make eye contact with people for a long time, because of a series of misadventures in life. I will then proceed to narrate these misadventures, all of which end with the protagonist (me) making eye contact with another person and things taking a turn for the worse.
