I added the server by IP address but I can't connect that way, I typed connect in console but then it said bad password.

Don't connect via the console. Just add it to your favorites then enter.

Some jackals began discussing some TF2 server or something and this got lost in the fray. We see your posts, don't worry. This seems totally awesome and you need a picture/video diary of the whole experience. Hope your little sister is alright and healthy.
