My brother has braces. He's had them for about a year and is still a total bitch about it. I never had braces so I have no idea if it's justified or that he is just crying for attention.

Well, I might have to have braces soon, to be honest I'm not really bothered by it, but not exactly something you would want if you were offered it. Does anyone here have braces? And do they eventually stop bothering you or what?

Had braces a million years ago.
Hated them at first (Would you want rubber bands shoved in between your teeth to make way for little metal rings and plates that scrap against the inside of your mouth? I think not.), but I grew to accept them.
WHEN YOU GET THEM OFF IT FEELS SO WEIRD BECAUSE YOU KEEP LICKING YOUR TEETH BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL SMOOTH AND IT FEELS ALL LIKE "BLEH THIS IS SO WEIRD OMG WHY"

I guess terms change depending on how they're used, and since so many people equate it with flaming, it's hard to say they're wrong.

I used to think that way, but the sample of people using it as such is much smaller than the majority that use it correctly. Having 10 kids on a forum all using the word incorrectly doesn't suddenly make it correct.

It's also the same reason I gave up trying to correct people who use the word 'ping' on IRC when someone says their name. The correct term for it is highlight or tab, in the context of IRC ping actually means something different, and when I use the word correctly people get confused (ping is a networking utility that is meant to determine if a host is reachable and how long it takes them to respond).

Get them. Trust me. You'll grow up with perfect teeth and forget you had them, and you wont have to worry about the financial burden at all. As a kid I know the feeling of not wanting to stand out because of the shit in your mouth. I got them when I was a kid and gave my parents hell because I was sure I was in the right about my teeth not being a big deal. I was wrong, and I seriously wish I could go back and tell myself off. It doesn't matter at all what other people think about that shit in your mouth when you're younger, you'll be thankful as fuck you did it when you're old enough to appreciate it.

My older brother refused braces when he had the opportunity and his teeth were all fucked up going into college. He quickly realized that when you're older it's a lot more awkward to have mangled teeth permanently than it is to put up with braces as a kid for a few years. At 25 he paid out of his own pocket (on a college student's budget) to fix his teeth, and he had to go through like 2 years because they were so bad. 2 years of college as an adult with that shit in your mouth. He hated it, but it was worth it. If he had done it when he was younger it wouldn't have been an issue.

FUCK FInALLY. Whenever someone said my name on IRC I would always go "why did you tab me?" and then everyone loses their shit and goes "HE DIDN'T TAB YOU, HE PINGED YOU, LRN THE TERMS DHURR"

I've been saying this for fucking years and people are always like "hurr durr dere goes old man jerff agn spekn bout de old days lololo" even though every other legit IRC network uses the correct terms and it's only the handful of retards from our community that are using it wrong.

Do kids even get teased for having these things anymore? I always thought that was a stereotype of the 90s. And contrary to what you think, braces aren't that half bad. I remember the part where I got then on and when they got rewired were particularly painful but actually having them felt good. You'd get this special toothbrush and you'd have to wear a retainer for a while soon after but that's it. There's nothing wrong with having braces.

I don't really think it's something kids get bullied over anymore, I've never seen one kid bully another kid over having braces before. The dentist said he doesn't quite know if I actually need them, and there's a better change I won't actually need them, but if I have to I'll have them.

°You know, only black people have grillz.
Oh wait sorry. Those are your braces.

°What does a dentist do on a roller coaster?
He braces himself

°Do you get reception with those things?

° Why did the deer need braces?
Because he had buck teeth.

I have had braces and yes, they do hurt the first week. You'll only be able to eat bread by ripping small pieces and putting them in your mouth.
The entire procedure of "getting the braces" doesn't hurt, it's when you wake up the next morning. I advice to stay home the first day after and getting some painkillers. (trust me I'm going to be a master of science)

eventually after two or three weeks, you'll be able to eat everything (also depending on how much you want to break it).
It's totally worth it in the end, and you are still able to get your money back (If you are under 18 and have a good insurance), it IS something your would want!

My dentist told me I didn't "need" them, but I went to the orthodontist anyway, and they told me I'd get issues later on (like my mom).
now my teeth are perfect and they will stay like this forever.

People don't get teased for braces lol. At least not in Australia. I have never ever seen a single person teased for them. Ever.

It's not something to be teased about, it's practically normal, for adults as well.

I've been counting down the days to my ship date. I can't remember the last time I've ever been this excited about something in my life.

Braces aren't bad. I just ignored the rules though and had them for an extra year. Oh and don't kiss someone who also has braces, they can latch and leave you both in an...awkward position.

For some reason, out of nowhere, I am having these chest pains/mini heart attacks/discomfort on my chest more often now. Like just today, I had 3 of these within an hour. And they were painful one after the other. The last one I had almost got me knocked out during Spanish class, which was my last class of the day. I'm actually pretty scared right now. e______e"
