Jessica stood up and noticed that Marcus has finally woke up. She started to walk to him and tell him to heal Adric and Boris... it was then when she realised that it wasn't going to be possible. Both of them were a few seconds away from dying.

She couldn't imagine herself having to decide between one or another... boris has been a really good friend and a companion since the beginning, Adric even saved her life back at Ravenholt, she stood still between Adric and Boris her own heartbeats speeded up, she didn't say anything to Marcus but she 'looked' at him in the eyes, letting him know that this was his decision. She now paid attention to Adric laying on the ground, "I wish there was a way to save you both..." she thought to herself with a sad expression on her face

Marcus woke in a daze of sweat and confusion. His head hurt, but something was off about him. He felt different. As he sat and watched the scenery, the sound of the waves crashing on the shore caused a ripple in his heart. Time had stopped for him as his mind was racing at this point. He hadn't even grasped the reality that Boris and Adric were dying. He stood up slowly, and looked out at the moonlit ocean. The ripple from his heart had reached his brain as he looked down to his hands. Marcus looked so young, but it was so obvious that he had seen a lifetime of war and violence. Life and death. His hands weren't trembling anymore, and he could see nothing but gold lighting his veins.

Staring out at the sea, Marcus spoke, "Bartleby, my friend, I need your guidance once more."

The sky began to flash, in what sounded like waves of rolling thunder. Marcus opened his eyes as he turned to the rest of the group, staring at him, waiting to see what he would do. Looking at the man standing calmly amongst them in their pain, it was obvious what he was now more than ever. His eyes burned gold under the moonlight, his entire aura seemed different. Marcus looked at Lissette and then at Boris, and nodded.

The angel made his way over to Adric and Ravin and kneeled down next to the two. He placed his palm on Adric's chest lightly and looked into the dying man's eyes. "Adric, your heart is pure, and you are a good man. You have done more for humanity than we could ask out of anyone, and for that you will receive my blessing." Marcus softly spoke a few words in his angelic tongue. He looked back at the dying Adric, and said, "When the time comes, I will call on you. In your final moments here on this place, relish in the warm memories of your life, your friends, your loved ones. Until we meet again, friend."

With that Marcus stood up from the still dying Adric and made his way to Boris. He knelt down next to the birdman and Liss as his placed his palm on Boris' chest as well as his golden eyes looked into the birdman's eyes. They were struggling to stay open, but for some reason when his eyes locked with Marcus' he found the strength to keep them open, and for a moment he felt peace in his dying body. It was a warm feeling. "Boris, you have helped us come so very far with our mission, and for that all of humanity is grateful. You have experienced a lot of pain and loneliness in your short life, and for that I am sorry. We are all created with a purpose, and no man or angel can change fate." Marcus muttered some words in his angelic tongue as his eyes stayed fixated on Boris'. "You will live, in our hearts and our memories. Go find peace and harmony with your family. You don't have to fight anymore."

With that Marcus stood up. As he broke eye contact with Boris, the bird caller could feel his mortality sinking back into him. His decision had been made.
"Life is temporary, but love is eternal, and can transcend lifetimes. Let us comfort our friends in their final moments, and make their transition into the afterlife a peaceful one. There is urgent business we must attend to after this is all said and done."

Adric smiled with great compassion. He seemd very touched by the man's words. His eyes, however, told a different story. He swatted at Marcus' shoulder with annoyance. "Marcus, I'm not dead yet you damned fool!" Adric coughed and propped himself up on his pack. He called Samson over. Adric looked at him and motioned to his pack "Get us some food, if you will!" Samson limped slightly, but fetched some pieces of smoked beef. Adric ate heartily and looked at Marcus and smiled gaily, wincing slightly as he chewed. "Marcus, I do appreciate tthe humor you included in those last rights!" Samson laughed
"'A good heart' he says!" Samson chewed the beef happily. Adric laughed and grabbed a small canteen of water and drank. He continued after a long swallow
"I do appreciate it. However, what I'd appreciate more though" he said, leaning in, the fire in his eyes intense as ever "Is a tiny bit of medical attention" Adric leaned back and motioned to the pool of blood besides him "You're not blind, I know you see the blood. And I'm not blind either, I've seen you heal some of our other companions. Now, I appreciate the words, deeply and truly I do. I've built a career around such things" Samson began to lick his wounds, wagging his tail. Adric laughed and continued "Now, Gray's works have truly helped me. Stopped the bleeding and all that. But you know what'd be truly, wonderfully, wonderful?" Adric leaned back and sighed again "Some goddamn healing, my angelic friend"

"Er, Sirrah Marcus! He seems to be alive, at least by some definition. While I'm sure last rites are very important to some, I think some surgery is required. Now, He shouldn't be losing any more blood, but he is still rather on the side of dying. So if you could just use some of that divine power of yours to do anything, that would be just Fantastic!"

He turned back to Adric

"Some people! Now Adric, I hope you realize I won't grieve your passing. Mainly because you're a bit of an awful person, but maybe it's because your passing was something natural, beautiful!" He paused for a moment

"It wasn't. I'm not grieving because why should I? I'll be crying that you're leaving a world out to kill you. Now what? Granted, I'd be surprised to see you up there, but maybe we'll see each other in the Land In-Between. Or at least we may, if some holy creature in our midst decided to not even attempt heal you. But what are the odds f that!" he laughed. His hand fell on Adric's shoulder. "You're a despicable piece of work, that the whole earth reviled and spat upon. And yet, you were my friend. To this day I have no idea what I was thinking
