I started SE when it first came out, was active for a few months, and are just now starting to play it again. I was aware that DM had happened (I follow the Dev Blog), but what's the difference between it and Classic, other than the resources you start with?

It's really evident; in classic you start with 2 miners and 500 gold, while in DM, you start with 6 miners, 3000 gold, and 1500 mana.

And yeah, but going further than simply the resources the meta is also different due to the changed starts.

But isn't Classic unranked and DM is ranked?

They have two seperate rankings.
