To say that pornography is harmful because it doesn't portray sex realistically is like saying that Norman Rockwell paintings or sitcoms from the 50s are harmful because they provide an overtly chirpy, sweet, happy view of family life which is wildly inaccurate.

I'll say right now I'm not trying to claim that pornography is immoral or that it is always going to be harmful, but there are times and places where it can be harmful.
Pornography addiction can be very much harmful.

Going back to what I said about expectations:
"What are some of the problems that people can have with using pornography? The biggest problem that people often have with using pornography is that they sometimes start to expect their own actual sex lives to be just like the pornography they use and enjoy. This is really pretty ridiculous and unreasonable! Pornography is idealistic, not realistic. Porn tends to show what people fantasize about, not what actually does happen in most people's sex lives."
"When people start comparing themselves or their sex lives to what they see or read about in pornography, they can often start to feel inadequate or maybe even abnormal. Sometimes people try to compare their partners' bodies, sexual desire, or sexual responses to what they've seen or read about in porn. Both are really unfair and useless. Pornography isn't what real sex or real people are 'supposed to be like,' it's an idealized version of someone's sexual fantasies. It's fine to use pornography if you want to, but remember that porn is not real life and you and your partner(s) don't have to 'measure up' to it!"

I guess pornography is harmful in the sense that a bunsen burner is harmful, if you haven't been taught about it before hand you can end up very badly affected. The key difference between the two is that you pretty much always get taught not to put your hand into a flame, where as there is such minimal discussion about porn the same learning can often not happen - and that's when we get problems.

Maybe someone should create a new thread about "Is pornography immoral/harmful?", or something along those lines.

Actually that is pretty incorrect. Pornography is meant to be seen only above the age of 18. However, most people find out before the age of 18 that pornography is staged. In fact, the porn industry has done PLENTY to show us behind-the-scenes information such as interviews with the stars, making-of documentaries, special features etc all of which are meant to show the view "LOOK THIS IS FAKE".

And my point still stands that if porno is harmful because people will expect their own actual sex lives to be like porn... then Television is bad too. Do you know how many people moved to New York thinking they were going to find 'Friends' like Chandler Bing and Phoebe Buffet? How many people started drinking at work because it looked 'cool' on Mad Men. How many children beat the crap out of each other because they saw The Last Airbender? How many eyes have been poked out by kids playing Zorro?

Pornography, a genre of expression, cannot be blamed for holding up false standards, especially when that genre is SOLELY for adults. Adults who should know better. If they don't, then its their fault, not the genre's.

Again, I'm not swerving the topic. But I'm standing my ground that in today's society, lesbianism and it's portrayals are positively MORAL. They impart positive energy to otherwise lonely men, and are an escape into a much-needed fantasy realm. I believe that the idea of homosexual women going at it is more potent (in the minds of many men. Not all. But MANY) than the idea of a heterosexual couple. Hence, it is the homosexual lesbial aspect of it that actually provides the pleasure, and hence is part of the very moral fabric of modern society.

It does when videographing those sexy bits and showing it to the world often fulfills a range of sexual fantasies for men in the dark abyss of lonliness who would otherwise have no release for their urges. We don't know how many young men and women's lives have been SAVED from sexual predators because those predators now sit at home and jerk off looking at homosexual themed porn. Hence, homosexuality and specifically, the recording and displaying of homosexuality is highly moral.
