Due Date: April 25th, 2015
Once it reaches this date, I begin compiling. It doesn't automatically mean your entry gets denied after this date, but it might be harder to get in.

Hey guys! I got an idea for a collab about video games. Here's how it works: A black stick is in a video game and he starts in the bottom left corner. He goes through this game and does whatever you want, then ends up mostly in the bottom corner again.

All animation programs can be accepted!

Flash[8 - CS6, but Flash 8 preferred] Template Here:
http://www.filz.us/files/28bea4e2/b97/The_8_Bit_Collab_Template.fla
The template shows very very very detailed versions of the rules to minimize questions to me about the collab, but you probably don't have to read them if you read the basic ones below.

BASIC RULES (some only apply to flash users)
-Video Game Inspired, clothes/weapons matching.
-Character must be black, beggining and end.
-Character can change size, shape, and colors throughout the entry, as long as he's black and average size by the end.
-Stick can be fullbody or whatever.
-Character must start standing in the bottom left corner and end there too.
-Char can interact and have any items or gear you like.
-Add SFX!!
-No music.
-Label everything in the library(symbols, tweens, sounds, etc.)
-Small references allowed.
-Make everything but sounds into a single graphic or movie clip. (Optional)
-Put name in top left corner.
-Joint entries, multiple entries, and very short entries are all accepted
-Preferred to make your entry non-accesible to public.
-Vcam in template can be used and moved how you like.

Specifications
24 FPS;500 width x 400 height resolution

Once entry is finished, PM me the FLA and SWF or AVI in some cases.
Anything Else: Export an AVI, GIF, MP4, or some other basic video format and send that to me instead. Follow the rules above that apply to everyone.
Pivot users, I'd prefer you to send me your piv file

If you have any questions about the collab or the rules, please reply here or PM me about it.
Also I'm doing tryouts for a person to do the ending. If you wanna do it, link an animation you've made.

That's basically it. I hope this collab becomes successful, I and look forward to seeing your work.
Also, if you're entering, please let me know by PM or replying here with the game you wanna do. Multiple entries of the same game can be accepted.

Current Entries

Also: even though this is called "The 8-bit Collab" you don't actually have to make an 8-bit looking entry, or use an 8-bit game, if you don't feel like it or don't know how. It's recommended, but not required. Good luck!

I've PM'd everyone I could, so if you didn't get a PM from me, idk what went wrong with it.

Well first of all, the block of texts is really really boring to read at the first glance. Thus you might have people not interested without reading at all.
I suggest that you keep short but informative. You don't need to write a lot to tell what's needed for a collab. Keep it simple.

And I also suggest that you start small, You look like you're aiming for something really big with this. And with where you are now, I don't think you can make something big. No offense. You should know and be know to make a collab, so people will know if you can actually finish it. No one wants to make a part for a collab that will fail, this people want to be sure so they won't waste time and effort.

I agree with the whole concept of being well known, and not Having a thread that's as long as a 3 page Harry
Potter book. Maybe do a bit smaller k.

If he wants to start out with a bigger challenge I say let him, and from that whether this fails or not he and others will still have learned something from it

I'm not expecting this to be the biggest thing ever, but if it does end up that way, I'll be ready to make it successful.

Well honestly, your gonna have to make yourself well known to make it something big, but goodluck in finishing this..
Oh and I suggest you follow at least some of what Rebellion said, since he's hosted tons of collabs already, then he has expirience..

Honestly the biggest issue with beginners making collabs is that by default the standard of quality for the collab is set very low, since they'll want themselves in it of course and that means any one at or even slightly below their skill level is liable to be accepted. That'll mean that even if the collab is completed, it won't be very successful because it'll be lacking in quality and no one will like it

Maybe also put this on Hyunsdojo? That way, you might get more attention on this collab. Also, try and be a little bit stricter with part acceptions. If a part that "is funny" is submitted but looks like it was made with a toaster and still gets accepted, the collab, despite whether or not it succeeds, will likely not be of substantial quality.

I also said in the rules that it can't bring down the quality too much. If it does bring down the quality a lot, even if it's my entry, i won't put it in the final copy. I'll give people plenty of time to make a high quality entry, so that even mid-beginners like me could make something good enough to get in. If it's still too bad to put in, I'll have to leave it out. I don't want to discourage anyone by saying "only high quality entries will get accepted" because some people see stuff like that and have the thought "I can't do this" cause if i had that thought during classic crossover, then i wouldn't have made an entry and got third place in beginner category. Sure, I made it in ten days and it was terrible and the preloader and links in the logos didn't even work right, but I'm still glad i did it. That's why if a beginner makes a good enough entry, it'll go in. And also because a lot of old games have bad animation anyway, so it might actually add to the authenticity of it.

That's only looking at the bright side. In reality, the ones who joined wasted their time since the collab wasn't successful. Sure, they practiced but they could have done something for a better cause. Beginners are free to make any anim they want, but more advanced people would like to animate for something that will be finished.
Thus, it leaves to the conclusion that only beginners will join.

I'm not telling him to stop, I'm just saying this is likely to fail or even if it gets finished, it will have a low quality. So a long ass collab with a low quality is just not pleasant to watch, people might just not finish watching it all. Which makes the whole collab, as a result, a fail.
