Strictly between PS4 and Xbox One at this point in time: PS4. From both an objective and subjective standpoint. Personally, PS4 has a lot more exclusive games coming out for it that I want to play. If I'm going to get only one console, I'm going to get the one that has more exclusives. I do plan on getting both consoles at some point, but my priority is PS4 unless the Xbox One goes on sale for very cheap. This means that any cross-platform games I'm going to get are likely going to be on the PS4. Objectively I've done research that indicates the PS4 has the better hardware, and I believe in the long run that will play a big part in the PS4's success when developers start finding ways to push the PS4's hardware to it's limits, even if it's only first party developers like Naughty Dog. The only reason I don't already own a PS4 or an Xbox One is because neither have much to offer at this point, and after the 3DS I refuse to buy into a console before it has content I personally want to play. I don't care about being the first to own it, I only care about getting use out of it.
If we're looking at all current consoles my favorite is the Wii U, almost entirely because of it's library. Now is a great time to be a Wii U owner. Not only are there quite a few released titles that I have been wanting to play, but Nintendo has also announced quite a few more titles for the upcoming year that look very promising, including a new open world Zelda game. This opinion pretty much only matters to people who enjoy Nintendo games. I also only feel this way again because Wii U has games for me and PS4/Xbox One doesn't. The Wii U doesn't really have much else going for it. It's hardware is only slightly better than last gen compared to the PS4/Xbox One, and it's online features still aren't quite there yet. From a developer's perspective I still don't understand why Nintendo hasn't figured out online properly, and I really despise how they've set up digital downloads and distribution (especially when the max console size they offer is 32 GB).
If I'm going to look at all of them and which one I think will do the best, I think the Wii U will likely have the most sales and objectively perform better from a business standpoint, but I personally feel like I'll end up preferring the PS4, but that hinges on Sony nailing down exclusive titles and offering a better online service like they did with the PS3 (when I say better online service I'm not referring to multiplayer, which was adequate but not as good as Xbox's, I'm referring to the fact that there were no pay walls and I get free* games every month).
Of course I am primarily a PC gamer, if I'm being honest. I definitely game on whatever I can get my hands on, and I like having access to every console (I have every console from the last few generations) just to be able to play any game I want. For most games I simply prefer the PC versions, for both graphics and controls. Depends on the game, really, but my preference for PC is admittedly not very pertinent, I just want to throw it out there as full disclosure.

Now THIS GUY can give an argument. From what I've seen, there have been pretty legitimate arguments on which is better. Most people, when chosen between the two, picked.............. PC master race. Which honestly, accounting everything, I'd pick PC as well, but like me many of you have preferred PS4. Yes, I should've added a poll. In fact, imma se if i can add one right now if that's possible. And honestly i probably would buy a Wii U first anyway literally just because if Smash 4.
Edit: nah I tried and I don't think it lets me. Can a mod add a poll for me? I want three choices. "PS4" "Xbox One" and "PC master race lol"

I am in a hurry!, so pardon me if I give a similar argument to Jeff's.
Sony products are always better quality PlayStations have always been the top quality game system. Best technology, easier to use, doesn't freeze (unless it has been hacked), 1 in a billion or more chance of being hacked. SONY products are top quality badass.
Microsoft needs to prepare for a meltdown. The Ps4 is better than the Xbox One by far. It has faster fps (frames per second), is cheaper by far (by $100) and doesn't make you pay 50.00 dollars to pay online. Coming from me, If I need to continually pay 50.00 dollars every month, plus the price to buy the console, I would choose the Ps4 in a heartbeat. Microsoft also doesn't know how to arrange a main screen, they have ads on the front page or something, and sometimes, I can't even tell which icon is my game. It also has better specs. Look it up Xbox One lovers. Better everything. Microsoft also barely lets you play games offline, because you need a Xbox live membership to play offline as well.
If you still think Xbox One is better, then hope you enjoy wasting your money.

PC wins, of course. Sure, it's a higher initial investment, but it really pays off. I'd suggest shelling out for a nice gaming laptop. Sure, my alienware can't run Crysis 3 on max, but games that are super resource heavy aren't really all that great when you think of it. The best games are those that are good in mechanics, like TF2 or Space Engineers, and those games aren't very hardware intensive.
But I'd honestly go with XBone. The PS4 has a lot of good titles, but I'd say the Xbone just because it has a better online multiplayer, the controller works much better for FPS, and Halo 5 and the Master Chief collection are fucking fantastic.
But Miniman was right, the whole multimedia thing the Xbone is going for is kind of tiring, and you feel like you're misusing the console when all you want to do is play a game.

Got a PS4 yesterday for Christmas all of a sudden. I tried some AC: Unity on it, and here's what i can evaluate.
The technology is just OP. The joystick has a touchpad on it for keyboard typing, which is a massive improvement for consoles, as well as having a headphones plug right in it. (Not sure if PS3 had that or not.)
As for the graphics, apparently it runs on all ultra for modern games, and has no lag. Controls are very comfortable once you get used to them, and the joystick is way better than Xbox's.
I've never really seen an Xbox One, so can't do much other than fit in some details on the PS4.

The PS4: There's a bunch of PS4 exclusive I wanna play. X.X
As for the Xbox One, I really don't want it, because it gives a bunch of unnecessary features as a gamer, such as social media. Sure I can see why it would be convenient, but I just don't need it.

I don't see the reason to complain about having more features then you thought you were gonna get.

As a mainstream gamer, the Xbox one has a bunch of features related to the TV and social media, which are stuff I neither need nor want.Quote from silentsh00tI don't see the reason to complain about having more features then you thought you were gonna get.
I understand where you're speaking from, because there was this one occasion where I decided to get more than what I asked (a smartphone in fact,) because my dad kept bugging me nonstop about it. At first glance I was personally dissatisfied, because I only got it just to shut my dad up, and I got more than what I wanted. I even directly told him I didn't want it, yet he resumed to bug me. However as I used my new smartphone more frequently, I admitted it wasn't so bad.
The reason why I wish not to have the Xbox One is because I already have 3 different devices that allows me to interact with the media, and I wish not to have an extra device that can do so.

Quote from LogicAnother thing, Hewitt, PCs are not built for gaming. Most of the people who buy PCs dont even plan to play games on them. PCs have the shit for games and business. They may have not 15 years ago, as i already said, but now they surpass consoles.
And if there's one thing that technology strives to achieve, then that's universality. People would rather pay 500 bucks for a laptop to play WoW and write essays than pay 300 for a console and another 200 for a cheapass tablet to write word files.
Sorry I just saw this.
Miniman's arguments hold a little water but I don't think you really know what "A Master Race PC" actually is or what you are arguing against. If you agree with me that they did not surpass consoles 15 years ago, then we have nothing to argue about because you are essentially agreeing with me. Everything else is irrelevant.
But I will humor you.
You are correct that PCs were not built for gaming, even today. But how dare you act condescending and assume that all I do with mine is play games on them as if I have no idea what the evolution of PCs were from decades past. That's beside the point however, as though games may not be all that a PC is, games are also the best and only way to truly benchmark PC Parts. I mean, that's why they slapped Morrowind in my snazzy GEForce 8400, because they did it to say "Our Game works with this Hardware's best settings." and no amount of Photoshop or Blender/Maya can convince me otherwise. And to a normal consumer who knows nothing about building and making a PC from scratch, they will just go with "whatever is higher" so even if they don't have games on them, it doesn't necessarily mean that they can't.
Moreover a person who bought a laptop to play WoW, could simply have the convenience, not the desire of writing an essay on it as well. It doesn't necessarily mean that he will choose to buy a laptop over a console/tablet method for that particular reason. You can write an essay anywhere. Heck, maybe he enjoys writing his essay on-the-go and in the park (where there are no tables) and has this strict regimen for only playing consoles in the house during playtime with the kids. That would mean that to this consumer, it would be optimal to have a tablet/console combo. You can literally spin this any way you want and it has nothing to do with technological universality--whatever that means.

As a person who's played PS3 more than he should, I can help you on that. No, the PS3 controller had neither a touchpad nor a headphone jack. This is also compatible with headphones that have mics and is usable during online gameplay. The control sticks now have an inward concave in the middle to create easier thumb action, and in order to fit the touchpad in there was some new placement of start buttons and whatnot. At the moment, i'd still probably prefer a PS3 rather than a PS4 tho because it's been said before that PS4 doesn't have many good titles yet and PS3 has hundreds of them. I still love the new controller tho. It's also been built a bit bigger to fit your hands more and has some grip rubber or something on the handles to give the controller a less plastic-like feeling. Also them graphics are totally insane. Also, for everyone saying that they choose PS4 because of KHIII, know that it's also coming out for XBox One. It might not be as good, but still. Still despite KHIII there's only one reason i would buy an Xbox One at all is because of games that have only released on it, like Titanfall.

Random Trivia: Did you know that the PS Controller originally had meanings in its design.
The Triangle represented your head facing up/forward.
The Square represented a Map/Document
X and O stood for No and Yes respectively. Why the US decided to switch them around (except for Metal Gear) is pretty stupid in hindsight.

I guess for players the X button seems more like a kind of main button than the circle one. Kinda like an "X marks the spot" or something. And yeah, i remember being confused as f$%& when i first played metal gear solid. At first i thought the game didn't even work because i couldn't get past the title screen.
