They both have their own likes and dislikes, for me it depends what the soundtrack sounds like if its skrillex and just a whole bunch of crap put together then i hate it if its just a whole bunch of random screaming.. no explanation needed for that.
anyway i dont really listen to much of both because im a drum and base fan :)

I've grown away from heavy metal now but I don't really listen to dubstep that much. Heavy metal just cos.

Either way, they're both inferior to pop.

Personally, I feel disgusted when I hear heavy metal. I just can't take music with almost no melody.
As for dubstep, electronic music is just the thing. Combined with the modulated saw bass, it's just... Brilliant. Plus with the acoustic elements, (like the one in skrilly's First of the Year,) it sounds very unusual and gets more exciting.

It's interesting hearing all these opinions on music. Some I agree with, some I don't, all interesting nonetheless.

I have pretty strong, non-flattering feelings about both. If the heavy screaming or that low demonic crap isn't heavy metal (I forget some of what some categories are) it wins with ease, but if they are, they're almost tied.

Almost, because dubstep brought us this:

So it barely squeezes out the win.

I'm pretty sure you don't know what the term melody means.

I need you to elaborate on what your "strong, non-flattering feelings" are about dubstep and heavy metal.

For dubstep, I feel like the passion behind the music is actually through the instruments/voices, so all the robotic sounds feel fake and soulless. It's not natural, and I don't like that. Like, I'm not big on remixes either, but I think covers are great.

For heavy metal, again, assuming it's screams and roars, I don't consider that music. At all. In any way shape or form. You want to drop one? I'm cool with that. Make it the whole song? I can't stand or tolerate it.

Everyone's entitled to their own musical preferences, but those are both simply far from mine.

This sounds like Scream-O/Black, or possibly some Thrash.

That's kind of unfair since I'm pretty sure EDM artists are also passionate about what they do. What kind of music do you like, exactly?

That's heavy metal. It's not purely screams and roars. You're thinking of some other subgenre of metal I think.

Alright, that wasn't half bad, I was thinking more like Five Finger Death Punch and things of that nature.

And I know they do put their heart and work into it, but I can't hear it the same way not everyone looks at all art and appreciates it. It's all just preference, and I can't say was is and is, just what it feels to me.

And I lean towards Alternative Rock

Yeah dubstep is just something you have to "get." I didn't get it the first time, either. In fact I had to put effort so I can like some EDM.

I agree with Azure, some areas within heavy metal are just brilliant whilst some are just too much.

And even though I like the occasional dial-up remix, metal wins for me.

I dont think Logic knows that Metal is a very umbrella-like genre to begin with. To compare it with the suspiciously specific dubstep is not fair in some ways.

To be fair, he was comparing HEAVY metal and dubstep.
