If you put times in EST (a united states time zone) then why do the time not benefit US players

1 AM caters to adults in the US that finished work, and 6PM caters to pretty much anyone in the US unless their eating times are unusual.

1 AM caters to people who stay up all night in the US and have no life or anything to do the next day.
5-7 PM is normal eating times in EST US

I put all times in EST because that way we have a standard conversion and I assume a lot of players are US? If you have a problem, then I'll use UTC +7, UTC -3, UTC +4 every week and make you work to convert. Obviously I can't cater all the time to Americans, and I'll have to eventually do a Europe one (I'll probably hand this over to some TZ member who can get on in my middle of the night.)

Synopsis

This one was much bigger than the 5 player Round Robin we did last week, and did I have fun! Not just because I won, but because I definitely had some close shaves - definitely with Myst in Round 2 and Slayer in Round 3. We had a much larger turnout with 10 and my choice was to run a double elimination (we were just starting with 7, then 3 people who were slightly late came in so I reset the bracket.) We did go waaaay overtime (3 hours) but I'll go over some reasons and some things we should change for the next Open.

We ended up having 4 participants leaving early in the tournament, with Price leaving near the end (and it went on too long anyway, so that's fine.) CuriousFish also wasted a lot of time "loading" (while watching YT videos) and just being a general nuisance + lag (Ai literally waited an hour for his game off CF). While our initial decision was to just kick him out of future tournaments, Price just reprimanded CF and told him to be a bit more mature for next tournament. This is one of the reasons the tourney stalled. (We ended up kicking him for his semi-finals match due to this.)

Secondarily, as I found out when organising this, it was hard to keep up with replays and my own games, so in future I'd like Zenith ranks to get a challonge account and help mark in results + track replays for the tournament (and perhaps anyone willing to chip in for a bit of work). I'd also now like to ask all participants to be in the tournament 10 minutes before start just so the majority of work is done before the actual tournament meet up time if possible, just so it gives me more time to work with and waste less of yours.

Apart from going overtime and the leave of participants, it was definitely a fun tournament. I'm looking forward to Sunday - perhaps a Swiss. Double elim could also be changed - perhaps no "loser has to win two sets?" Perhaps a Bo5 finals? We'll see.

P.S. A 12 minute rule could be implemented with whoever has tower control at 12 auto-wins, just to prevent any games that might hold up the tournament.

Final Placings

#1 ~ DAZ
#2 ~ UltimateSlayer1
#3 ~ CuriousFish
#4 ~ Pricey
#5 ~ Godliness, _Ai_
#7 ~ Mysterybat
#8 ~ Pablowilleatu, Drizzle, ZwnDYL

GG!

P.S. As usual, post your times if you haven't already for next Friday and Sunday (this week's has been decided.)

TL;DR I win. Go home, myst, go home.

Can the next Friday Fight Night be at 4 or 5 PM EST? Me and a lot of my members can make this time.

I reckon this would work well.

One pedantic thing though to prevent issues if this is implemented, say at the 12 min mark neither player has tower control because one just lost it, do you award victory to the next player that gets tower control or do you award victory to the player that had tower control just before?

I'd say if it dragged even longer and no one got the tower past the 15 minutes or so the one who had tower at right before 12 mins wins.
