Ello so I am kind of lost.

I am new to animation and want to learn as much as possible but I have no idea what to start with.

Note* I am BRAND new no idea never animated* (although i know a little about the macromedia flash 8 software)*watched utube for it*

So any pros out there or veterans that can recommend what I should start animating to get the gist of animation would be a great help.

Note* I rather do effects and stuff later and focus on stick motion 1st.

Thank You

Refer to the "Have Questions? Here Are The Answers!" thread at the top of this section, as well as the Flash tutorial section.

This is an animation community, a lot of time and effort has been put into resources for beginners to help get them started. Please use them and make an effort to find an answer to your question before asking it.

"make an effort to find an answer" ... it said "General Help" and I am making an effort by asking people who have more experience in the field than me....... and stating that this is an animation community seems a bit sarcastic.. I mean why would I bother typing "Hi im new to flash animation" if I didn't know that this was an animation community. I believe that instead of making a rude statement such as that and maybe keeping it to yourself would have been a better choice and hope that this isn't how all newcomers are greeted in this community.

start with pivot.(its a stickfigure program] download it at google or here - http://pivotanimator.net/Download

and then learn how humans moves and animate some tests, if think your ready, download flash here - http://macromedia-flash-8.soft32.com/ and start animating stick figures or fullbody.

HOPE THIS HELPS! :)

Pivot is easy to learn but hard to master. But Flash is kinda better because it's more easier and you can animate more freely.
But I recommend that you should start with stick movements like first, walking then go next to running then punching..etc
Cause if you go ahead and go straight to effects and all that, you won't really learn much but who knows, maybe you will
But those are just my opinions, so don't go debating on me

starting with walking and running is good
but if you are very new and you find it hard to do those
then you should start like how i did

at first when i thought its hard to make walking and running stickfigures
i started with a ball
so i basically had only one circle on the screen
trying to make it look realistic and it really helped me about momentum and some other stuff like answering to hits
and where the ball should go when it was hit here and there

stuff like that

but thats kinda useless if you can already draw running stickfigures

The first and most important thing you need to learn is easing. Rather than animating sticks first like everyone is suggesting you should animate a ball bouncing. It's an incredibly easy exercise but it's something so many newcomers fail to do.

After you've animated some short ball tests, you should get into single character movements like walking, running, and climbing stairs.
