Is it interesting to anyone else how most people's usernames don't begin with their favorite letter? And that there are even a few who lack it entirely?
Quote from DevourActually, 95% of what was written about chivalry was about war and etiquette when facing a fellow knight in combat. Only very few things were about how to treat ladies
Quote from DamianI've never thought about this before. How does one go about picking a favorite letter? Do you pick one that looks/sounds nice? What the shit?
Knights were generally assholes to everyone except themselves and the nobles they were protecting. Like glorified and rich gangbangers.
Quote from ExxoniteTure. Most knights were nobles (excluding really few exceptions) and as we know in the medievel era, knights only fought for Barons; Counts; senior clergy; dukes and the ruler, knights and other nobles didn't really give a fuck about the second estate (all the peasantry and all other social groups beside the ones I just listed), unless it affected their standing in the hierarchy and/or fortune.
I'd hardly believe knights had the time to flirt with girls, even less to be chivalrous to them. Of course as the nobles they are , they could afford learning how to be 'gentlmen' thus fascinate and charm the ladies , but it was mostly for the show and only at huge meetings. Women were threated like shit unless they were from a high standing noble family. Nobles were generally a bunch of stupid fucks.
But the term chivalry itself is pretty fucked up. The defintion kept chaning through the middle ages and to make it harder, the meaning was different in each country. Firstly I suppose the 'code of chivalry' was created by the idealisation of ancient martial traditions such as the service to otheres, their training, bravery ..etc. Over time it kept chaning and establishing different notions such as nobility and honour.
Chivalry at first mean 'horsemanship' (some wiki help)- the french world chivalry mean : "a man of aristocratic standing, and probably of noble ancestry, who is capable, if called upon, of equipping himself with a war horse and the arms of heavy cavalryman and who has been through certain rituals that make him what he is".
Basically 'chivalry' actually meant something quite different then what most people think it does, until the REALLY REALLY late middle ages.
Sorry about the off topic reply, I really love talking about the human history especially the medievel and pre medievel era.
