Apparently, you can now be banned from launching a game you fucking paid for.

So any dev who may have a grudge against someone can just permaban them from the game with no refund? Valve, you're shooting yourself in the dick. Stop.

This idea sounds pretty noble, but steam's reputation of customer service doesn't give me much hope.

I thought the issue would be more with the fact that Valve will simply enforce a ban without questioning the reasoning behind it. My concern is that this could be exploited for such a wide variety of reasons.

I am modding GTA V on PC. Mods have fixed many of the complaints I had for GTA V and made single player much more fun to fuck around in. I do not take anything online, I haven't played GTA V online since it was first launched almost 2 years ago. It would be bullshit if I got banned for it but honestly all that's going to do is force me to circumvent their protections in order to play a game I paid for. They've covered themselves pretty well with making the single player somewhat integrated with online so they can justify this crap with a EULA, and I'm not going to even pretend I have hope that Steam support wont dick me around if it comes to it. I haven't been banned yet and I've been moddding since the latest patch which looks for memory editing and stuff, so part of me believes that a lot of the people complaining could be partially lying, but at the same time I don't think R* distinguishes between memory edited for cheat and memory edited to fix the shitty FOV in first person mode. Graphical mods that don't enhance your performance shouldn't be punished.

i fail to understand why they would want to ban anybody for modding in single player at all. multiplayer, maybe, i can understand, if they really want to avoid cheating... but this is fucking GTA, not DOTA or something. that still doesn't make sense to me.

i'm mostly just fed up with where the gaming industry as a whole is going. valve was doing all right, it's really aggravating to see them start pulling anti-consumer shit as well.

I know, right. I really thought it was going to thrive when and if Steam Box comes out, but they gonna need some damn customer service to make things go smoothly, and this whole situation isn't helping.
