Should E-Sports really be considered a sport?

I got into a heated argument about whether or not E-Sports should really be considered a sport. Of course the argument is over, however I wanted to hear what everyone else says about it. E-Sports is generally viewed as gaming professions. These professions, of course usually only last through your glory years, roughly 20 to up to 30. But so is sports.

It depends on how you define 'sport'. You can google that definition and find many different but similar definitions from various sport federations, some acknowledge non-physical games as sports, some don't. There's no universal definition for either side of this argument to base their arguments on.
Personally I see e-sports as what it is, competitive and organized gaming competitions. The title is fitting enough. I don't see why it needs to be seen as a 'true sport' for some people, as if it makes it more legitimate or something. It is what it is, who cares what you call it.

Some argue that E-sports don't even deserve to have the title of sports within it, to clarify. They believe that sports are competitions where both competitors must train hard, for sweat to drip, and for muscles to sore. Sorry about me not being clear.

Yeah, some people think of sports that way, some people disagree. That's why I said it depends on how you define 'sports'.

Hmmmmm. Good point. I don't think this thread was that necessary. Please don't ban me, honest mistake :|

It's still worth discussing, I'm not going to ban you lol

Banning is a sport, get rid of this guy, Exilement.
I normally define sport as some kind of physical activity. I think E-sports are more 'games' than 'sports'. But I also completely accept that it boils down absolutely to your definition of sport. I don't have anything against E-sports being called a 'sport', it just doesn't tally with my personal description of what it is.

I mean, you could argue that to get to that kind of competitive level all of those things are happening.
Really, the amount of presses per second you'd see in a competitive game can be freakin' insane. To get to that level you absolutely must hone the skill for hours on end day after day.

I did some more thinking about this, and my verdict is that since Chess is considered a sport, E-games will be considered sports too in time.

Actually, I completely forgot about chess being a sport. Nice catch!

Are "e-sports" considered a "sport"
"e-sport"
"sport"
One letter difference.
Nah I'm sure they just call it "e-sports" because of you know...other reasons...or something.

It is a legitimate query whether or not a 'sport' played on an electronic medium can be called a sport. It isn't as obvious as you're making it out to be.

if they think that people who are in professional competitive gaming don't train hard, sweat, and ache,
they are wrong
