Hey all!

Pretty new at animation but always been a fan of RHG so I wanted to try my hand at it to be able to implement it into a game.

I'm a unity developer and was inspired to make a fighting game with a combo and movement system similar to smash brothers melee.

Hope yall check it out :D lemme know what you think or... if you'd play haha. or any changes/additions you would like to see in this

Damn, nice! When will the prototype be released? And will there be special moves? And more characters to play as? I know I'd definitely play.

hmm so currently how it is. theres a couple moves on the ground.

Neutral
Dash attack
Neutral Special
Side Special
Launcher

And in the air theres equivalents of each. u cant really tell its a "special move" in the video above but the kick where he slides across. thats supposed to be like captain falcon's falcon kick. i just havent added the particle effects for fire and what not.

I initally planned to have a couple characters. Spatan, swordsman, fighter (above), mage.

But each character takes forever cause I am pretty bad at animating XD so it takes me forever just to make a walk cycle >>

Thanks for the nice comment! But, I'm having a bit of developer crisis and not sure where i want to take this game. Was thinking maybe of just turning it into a platformer instead where theres no enemies. it's mostly a jump platformer with a big of stick figure parkour and your goal is to collect peices of weapons where at the end of each arc ull use the weapon to fight a boss.

 <---- me right now. lol i gota make a decision on what i want to do

You should try making use of MUGEN.

oh i've worked with mugen before. but mugen is based on a sort of 2D fighter street fighter style. while this is based on a platformer engine. like smash brothers.

and you cant really release a game with mugen since its not a standalone game engine.

thanks for the input tho. mugen with rhg character would be pretty cool

It looks really nice.
My only criticism would be that trajectory should follow a more smooth parabolic path instead of having so much hang-time.

Other than that though, the hits seem to connect smoothly, the animation transitions are solid, and the physics for jumping and running are similarly good. Looks like it controls well seeing how you change your momentum in jump, but I would of course have to try it to say for sure.
Definitely excited to see what becomes of this project. I hope you release the engine, because I have recently taken an interest in Unity and would love to play around with it!

I'd have to do some cutting up of the project though since I used smooth moves to create the animations and I'm obviously not allowed to release smooth moves. But if you have any questions with a melee combat system let me know!

I am pretty big enthusiast when it comes to fighting games so I wanted to tackle it in the unity environment. Has been very informational. Let me know if you have any questions about it. Other ppl have asked me too on unity forums and what not about it. I might release a short tutorial on how to send ppl at a certain trajectory and talk about some frame data, Since there needs to be balancing between hitstun/blockstun to avoid infinite combos or perfect blockstrings.
