Nish shut up. He'll never see it your way.

Let RD Luffy explain to us how exactly adding focus to something, removes your motivation from it.

No I didn't mean it in a "when you get good results you lose interest" kind of way
I just meant it in a "If you know everything your going to do....wont it get boring eventually?"

As to what Nish just said going in blindly and seeing how things will go, pretty much makes life more exciting(in my personal opinion)
For instance I started animating without actually planning on studying or practicing anything, but the people I talked too made animations and drawings for fun and got better each an every time, so I started to do it too
Then after absorbing so much information from others, and sources being available whenever I needed them, it helped the process of getting better much easier, because I never would know what I needed until it came
to the time of needing it.(If you see what I'm saying)

Nothing happens the way we plan it. Having short term goals ahead of you does not mean you know exactly how things are going to turn out.

It would get boring only if you're someone who prefers living in a dream world instead of converting it to reality. Like how you see these old men in rocking chairs who have accomplished nothing life life but they talk about how "if the coach had made me part of the team, I'd have played for the NFL" or "If I had joined a proper gym, I'd have been a heavyweight boxer".

So this line of decision making has led to your stellar animation career so far with such an impressive body of work.

Damnit Nish.

No, I really don't. I asked you if you have personally ever experienced getting bored if you knew everything. You gave me the exact opposite; that you started knowing things because it was getting fun. You're presuming that once your source of interest wanes, so will your motivation. Well you don't really know what's really going to happen, do you?

It sounds to me like you're just making excuses not to move forward because you're afraid of losing out on something else. What do YOU wanna do? Because if you're complaining about not being able to fulfill your fantasies without actually doing anything, then that's your own damn fault. You don't really know anything.

I don't quite understand....short term goals can be accomplished through planning and discipline true. But I mean planning your future out so much your not expecting anything else. Not really trying to put the "I could've" or"If this would've happen'd" kind of ordeal
So this line of decision making has led to your stellar animation career so far with such an impressive body of work.

You got a point.....

You're not being ignorant. I'm just trying to make you see the lack of logic in your beliefs. What you really want and what you want to do are clashing. So it's not fair to wonder why you just can't seem to act. Answer the fundamental question of what you want and realize that fun and motivation are mutually exclusive, and you will get your answer.

I'm asking you questions instead of telling you the answer, unlike Nish, because I want you to internalize your own problems. It's useless if all we did is give you advice you're never going to follow anyway. Change, comes from within.

I'm really not trying to sound like that if I am at all.....

What do YOU wanna do?

I could answer that question with "well I'd really like to animate/draw because it interests me the most"
But I don't know if that would be answering the question or not. I don't know what I really wanna do besides that, but sometimes the fun and motivation seem to lack as time passes.
Of course I could always explore other options and see what I like, but I always find myself coming back to it.
What would you do then?

As has been said before, if you can't muster a sufficient amount of fucks given to put time and effort into doing something, then it isn't actually what you want to do
Might I suggest finding a new hobby?

With the amount of resources I have at my disposal atm, plus my interest in the field....
I could find a hobby on the side that I might like an still keep practicing discipline in animation.
But I'm not trying to just talk about myself here, say there were limited options depending on where you live, or how most hobbies you've always wanted to try your not able to do because of other reasons.
And you still have resources from your current hobby(that you still have small interest in) at your disposal.
You don't want it to just go to waste right? Especially all you've learned so far, you don't want to waste either.

TL;DR
What If my fucks won't sidetrack onto something else but instead the main hobby. Do I just keep finding the fucks to give or do I give it up entirely
Fucks is a funny word to type....and im still laughing

There's nothing wrong with wanting to animate or draw purely as a hobby. That's all I did when I was 15 or 16. I managed to get fairly good at it, at least technically, I didn't make much of anything worth watching. just a bunch of stick fights and movement tests.

It was what it was, a hobby that never went anywhere, but it was fueled by this persistent delusion that I'd someday do anything noteworthy with it. I had plenty of grander ideas but fuck if I knew how to pull them off. I was too young, too naive, figured it would just happen if I kept dicking around with Flash without really putting discipline into my goals and what I needed to accomplish them. It led to a lot of disappointment and frustration.

So if all it is for you is a hobby that's awesome, just be realistic with your goals and what you want to accomplish. If it's just for fun then there's nothing wrong with that.

Sorry for the necro but I just saw this and never replied to it. My question pertains to what you would like to do in the now, the very moment. Not as a whole for when you come back to it time and time again. If your aim is for fun then just animate until it isn't fun? But don't whine and be emo about it no longer being fun or the future that it will not. Your conviction is only as strong as your desires.

Why are you so afraid of losing interest in something you haven't lost interest in? And why does it matter that you no longer want to animate in the way you thought you could? Is there some kind of omniscient council that oversees your talent progression and judges you based on what you've learned so far? You try something until you lose interest or pursue it. It's that simple. Stop thinking about the what ifs as if animation's all you've got.

If you want to do it just do it. That's the hardest part.
