You need to work on your running, walking and jumps.
Move every joint each new frame, so it looks much more smoother.
Physics, you need to know more about that, and easing.
Edit: My bad, you said this was made a long time ago, but why dont you post your new stuff though?
Cause latests are much better to show than old ones.

yeah i was more focused on movements then easing at the time

Which is good. The best thing would be to work on movements by themselves while considering easing. You were onto the right path. That animation there was far better than any beginner whose main focus is easing.

I know I'm probably just repeating, but I would suggest working on smoothing out the sudden stops whenever moving on to a different section. Of course, its always better to move every joint individually to have maximum smoothness! The rest, as far as i know, would be knowing the physics of different movements as well as easing, etc. But like you said, this is old, so I don't really know how good you are now. I'd like to see more tho :)
