So yeah, the supreme court legalized gay marriage in the USA.

People can do what they want, but I wouldn't do it myself.
I heard that the Court basically forced this onto the states, is that true?
I've been reading this BS all over. I'm not gonna act like I know about American legal systems, but this is a human rights issue. It shouldn't matter if the majority of people in a state
within America is against it, there's a minority there who are being deprived of a right that isn't hurting anyone.
And then there's all these religious people claiming it's against their religious freedom and shit. No one forced them to agree to make a ceremony for the homos getting married. The only thing they get is the right to have a legal marriage, which they 100% deserve whether the states like it or not.

So when a Court sentences someone to prison, they're forcing the state to imprison him?

View Profile i gotta say, i was pretty surprised to hear that this happened. i know a lot of people have been pushing for it for a while, but i wasn't expecting anything to actually be done about it without many years of government policy fuckaround

Its easier to this think of it as states no longer being allowed to ban gay marriage.
They would have to do something like outlaw all marriage in that state, which would be an interesting retaliation.

Thanks.

No. I could have searched this up myself to get answers, but I didn't.
To answer your question: no.

Heh...
What's it to them though, gays have been fucking each other anyway, now they get a paper to prove it. No difference really to religious groups really.

Thats not how they see it. They see it as the concept of marraige being between a man and a woman. There are plenty of people who claim to be ok with homosexuality but who aren't ok with the concept of marraige being between anyone except a man and a woman. Its the usual nonsense-logic that people with disguised homophobia use.

I always thought the problem with religion and gays is gay sex, which was happening anyway. If their issue is the "sanctity of marriage" then they should realize that legal marriage isn't the same as a "religious" marriage.

View Profile To a lot of them, this is just a way of fighting homosexuality without seeming homophobic. They've already made ridiculous comparisons along the lines of "Whats to stop people from marrying children" or "Then why is it illegal to marry animals if you fuck it". They don't get the concept of two consenting adults. The way I see it, any two individuals who can be trusted to vote for a government should be allowed to marry each other. No kids, no animals. If you can make a decision about how runs your country, you should be able to make a decision about who you marry, regardless of gender.

Essentially yes, but this isn't the first time that the Supreme Court has done this.

View Profile Isn't it more of a prevention of states from denying gays the right to marry? I'm honestly not as read up as I should be, but religious institutions could still deny service to homosexuals as per their religious beliefs, correct?
Either way, this has been a long time coming. I'm proud to say my state passed a marriage equality act that I was able to vote on a couple of years ago. It feels really good. Especially considering all the gays I've met and befriended since attending university and those that I am related to.

View Profile Because of separation of Church and State as well as Freedom of Religion, yes, religions can still deny gay marriage if they find it to be an abomination to their beliefs. However, in the legal sense of marriage, nobody can be denied anymore, so now in the legal sense of the term marriage, everyone can marry. As somebody who already didn't like religious weddings, I don't see much of a problem with religions still having their collective sticks up their asses and denying weddings to the LGBT community. Who needs a wedding "sanctified by God?" As long as you can be recognized as a married couple and nobody can deny it, everybody wins. My view of it at least.
