No, it's not a joke.
This guy was a legend. He helped program so many games in the past so they wouldn't be disasters. He was responsible for decreasing Earthbound's size so it can fit in the cartridge. He was also responsible for tinkering with SSBM so it could be released on time. He was also responsible of reverse engineering the Pokemon games and did such a phenomenal job in decreasing the size of the 2nd generation Gameboy games that they were able to include the Kanto region. And this is just scratching the surface of what he's done.
A part of my childhood just died.
Rest in peace Iwata, you will be missed.

I've also heard the news. It's sad to see a man who made our childhoods leave this planet so soon.
May he rest in peace.
May he rest in peace.

Iwata is definitely an inspiration. Say what you want, but he's done a LOT for Nintendo and made a lot of great projects happen. Also, unlike the stereotypical President of a company, he seemed like a genuinely nice guy. He's made my childhood so much better by making these amazing games and I(and many other people) will never forget how much he has done for Nintendo and gaming as a whole. R.I.P.

A lot of people blamed him for the Wii U selling poorly and creating weird policies that "ruined" Nintendo.

Well, this is sad.
He was the one who molded Nintendo in the past decade or so into what it is today.
Kind of dumb to say this now, but I'm glad people still play Nintendo games. Where I live everyone plays Call of Duty and all those other realistic FPS games.

*Implying that CoD is realistic
Why do all my favorite Japanese people die so soon. PLS NOT MIYAZAKI.

Then his only crime is being creative I guess. If he wasn't in a AAA company, this would've been a non issue. Let's just remember him for the DS.

Figured this would be appropriate.

God speed, GOD FUCKING SPEED.
*ahem*
But yeah. I didn't look into him too personally or anything, but from what I've heard and what everyone's been saying, he was an amazing guy.
