cooking 101 really should be a mandatory course in high school.
realistically a lot of americans just have awful dietary habits. my mom cooks but much of the time it's processed stuff or things you'd find on the recipes section of Pillsbury's website. when I worked at wendy's my manager told me her husband doesn't like the taste of water and subsists entirely on Barq's root beer. the amount of soda americans drink on a daily basis is just ridiculous. you literally cannot go to a walmart without seeing at least one ham planet scooting around in their motorized cart which is almost always full of chips, snack cakes and sodas.
it's a generational thing, a lot of people grow up in households where these horrible dietary habits are treated as normal and so they don't seek out anything else. that's why fad diets have been so popular, the concept of altering your overall nutritional intake as a lifestyle adjustment is too extreme for most people to handle or even consider.

Alternatively, some people find the idea of cooking (especially for themselves) too much of a 'pansy' task to be worth their time.

seriously? must be a regional thing. I mean there's the old-school mentality that women should do the cooking and cleaning but I've never met anyone my age who takes that seriously. fewer things are manlier than cooking a kickass meal from scratch for your lady.

Off topic : I think universally it is still viewed as manly for "Dad" to throw some meat on the BBQ and cook once in a while and stuff. I don't think people mind men cooking for women either, but its seen as a little pansy-ish to be the ONLY one who cooks, or to be the one who cooks and cleans while wifey goes to work.

Where do you live?
I'm in florida atm, and saying that you cook on the regular is kind of a "why doesn't you girlfriend do it?" kind of thing

It doesn't really matter who's cooking as long as the food is healthy and tastes good. The person who cooks better does the cooking in the relationship imo. The other can just do any other chores.

i got the best recipe for baked chicken, and im 14, a boy and i cook regularly if that's pansy-ish then i am a giant pansy, i don't see the problem for men to cook healthy meals.sure i sometimes drink sodas and im a sucker for hershies and im still a fat kid and weigh about 198.
all around, being fat is fine as long as you dont get so fat to were you are a "ham planet scooting around in their motorized cart",because some people are born fat

I say Nutrition should be mandatory, and we should bring back Home Economics and make that mandatory as well. A lot of people I've met recently seem to be entirely ignorant on independent living, and the lacks of education in subjects like this could be part of the reason why there's a rise (I'll agree to a rise, but still refuse to view it as doubling) in Obesity and Overweight people. If they don't know any better and/or can't put forth the time or money for better, how can we expect better?

You said it yourself. You drink soda and you're sucker for Hershies. No one is born fat. Yes it's true some people are more prone to weight gain than others but the effect isn't that abundant or significant enough to make someone obese.

How tall are you, bro? That can't be healthy.
I kind of understand now why Americans are more concerned with fat shaming. I certainly think that if its ok to bombard 14 year olds with calculus and algebra and history, then nutrition and regular exercise should be mandatory too.

i was like 200lbs when i was 14 too, and it was a serious health thing

So I joined a gym yesterday and went out and bought protein shakes and gym equipment and the like.
I posted it here to add on to the fact that perhaps Fat Shaming may not be the way to go, but "Fitness Glorifying" certainly helps.

Yes, what I was thinking in an earlier post. However, I think that unlike most glorifications where the person hasn't experienced what's glorified, exercise is something most people picked up and gave up after a handful of tries and would be reluctant to retry no matter the glorification.Quote from Nishbut "Fitness Glorifying" certainly helps.
