Sometimes I find you too American to be enjoyable, but every now and then you come out with something which makes you worth the effort. Good catch.

Right now I work at a pizza delivery company which my contract forbids me from identifying online (but it's the best one). I'm a PhD student and delivering pizzas pays my rent, while tutoring pays my tuition fees. Tutoring is a fantastic job which pays way more per hour than I am worth, but only gives me five or six hours per week, whereas delivering pizzas pays me much less than I am worth to the company (because I'm amazing) but is much better in terms of hours. I love both of my jobs. Honestly I would happily deliver pizzas for the rest of my life if I could earn enough money from it to support a family.

In the long run I'm not sure what I want to do. My PhD is in Philosophy, and if I can get a permanent teaching job at a university that will be amazing, because it's about 12 hours a week work on a respectable salary. But the market for philosophers is exactly as competitive as you imagine it would be, so I'm prepared to fall back on my undergrad in Economics. All of my undergrad friends have gone into banking and it's something I'd be happy enough doing. How much I'd want to make from it would depend on where I ended up living - if I end up in London I'll need about 20k per year more than anywhere else because it'll cost that much more on accommodation and food.

In the past I've worked in telemarketing for a financial brokerage come debt collector, and that wasn't so fun because I had to have the same conversation thirty thousand times (that is not even an exaggeration) but I wouldn't mind working for the same kind of company so long as it wasn't on the phones. And I don't regret my time there, because just listening to the other people in the office was amazing experience in business finance.

Damn.

It always surprises me that I used to talk with you. A teacher. That's amazing.
Kieran.

Doesn't seem like many people are taking this seriously but here you go anyway since I've got time to kill at the moment. I don't really know what my official title is since it's never come up, but right now I am acting as a full stack developer + occasional game developer for StickPage. Full stack just means I work at every level needed to run a website, which includes things from the technical side like managing server hardware, developing server software, developing databases, and developing application architecture, as well as the creative side like web/graphic design and user experience. I do work on more than just StickPage, but StickPage is my primary project at the moment.

I used to do the same job for Hyun's Dojo but technically as a freelance contractor. I worked freelance building websites for clients and a few Flash games for a number of years before then, and before that I did technical support for Apple which actually counted towards a degree in micro computing. I've also worked at EB Games (or GameStop for the yanks) for a few years and for a little bit at a marketing company as part of a kind of internship doing graphic design and concept artwork.

I am currently doing exactly what I want for a living. It's creatively fulfilling and a load of fun to learn all the things. Plus I get the satisfaction of watching people use and appreciate my creations whether or not they know it was me who made it. ;) I also get to give back in a significant way to the community I've been a part of most of my life, and while it has ups and downs I can't deny it's shaped who I am and it feels right to keep it going for others who might have the same experience, though I have largely stepped outside of participating in it on a personal level for my own reasons. I honestly don't care all too much about how much money I make as my happiness is generally more important to me. As long as I am making enough to sustain a comfortable lifestyle for myself and my long-term girlfriend I am content. I don't need excess money to feel good about myself, although obviously I wouldn't turn it down if the conditions were right for me. I'm in such a good spot now that it would have to be a very good opportunity. I feel very fortunate to be in the position I am, which makes me want to work hard to maintain it.

The fact that you almost forgot about that one means that you intentionally didn't give a shit about playing for srs. So why sign up in the first place, douchebag

Oh, that Revolution. I wasn't talking about the forum game. I thought you were referencing the actual SPP Revolution attempt I was involved in. Which I was why I asked if the deleted vBulletin Group could be brought back somehow.

Well if we're being serious, I guess I can be a little vague about it.

I just spend the last 8 years studying for my Masters in Business and getting a Real Estate Brokerage License, while working my crappy day job (still doing it now). And I'm essentially in this staring-in-the-abyss phase of my life where I have to wonder what life-changing decision I'm gonna do to get to that happy place Jeff is in right now. I have the capital, and the means. I just don't have the ambition. Not yet. Problem with me sometimes is I just think too much, so I often wonder if I still need to learn something else to get what I want in life.

It's partly why I stepped down as Mod sometime ago. I felt like I couldn't shoulder both responsibilities and I needed to focus my energies elsewhere.

I... I was serious. ;-;

Also, it's interesting to actually learn stuff about you, Hew. You're always such a mystery. The Mystery Man of SP.

That's kind of the point. I should've just kept up with the Birds schitck but the day I removed all that, I had really intended to leave.

I still do, but the plan's been delayed a bit.

Speaking of careers, I just made the decision to switch careers from digital media associates degree, to pursuing a career in psychology.

Well, what I discovered is that when I design, draw, or do anything in that regard, I do it for the creative freedom. I enjoy the sense of "I made this". My first semester was fine, and I really enjoyed the classes like color theory, but when I took the photoshop class, it made me realize that it turned something I enjoyed into such a chore. You had to go by the "clients" pictures, guidlines, and requests. It wasn't design anymore, it was "Hey, since you know how to crop out photos, do it for me."

I really hated it. And I decided to go with psychology because I seriously read psychology and philosophy text books for fun. It has always fascinated me and I've always had a natural gift for knowing what to say, how to say it, and giving really good advice. So I decided to go with that since I love the study of it in general, and hearing about peoples problems, disorders, and how the mind works in general has always intrigued me.

I'm aware it's a lot of school. Like ALOT of fucking school. But I'm willing to put the effort in. When I make it far enough they make really decent money too.

Also, my laborer job isn't working out. I worked a total of 6 hours this week. To my biggest regret, I gave Party City a call and they happily rehired me. As much as I hate retail, it's consistent pay. It's my means to an end to pay for my first two years at a community college and then hope I do well enough for scholarships.
