You don't need to be cool to browse there, just discretion since lurking is a major part of understanding the place. If you really are going to visit start off with the nicer boards like /adv/ and /an/.

There are only 2 good boards on 4chan, /gif/, and /h/. I love how 90% of the people who talk shit about 4chan have never been there and are just shitting on it because it's a cultural norm to do so.

better yet, avoid 4chan entirely. the only thing it ever had going for it was free speech, and it doesn't even have that any more. go to 8chan instead if you're curious about chan culture

after the "fappening" fiasco, 4chan got a fuckton of negative media attention and eventually started caving under pressure to start trying to make the website more 'clean'. that led to more and more social justice type moderators being hired, and more and more deletions based on feelings and eventually outright censorship, as demonstrated later on during gamergate. since then, 4chan has been sold to the founder of 2ch, who sold personal information of users to businesses and government before running the website into the ground

tl;dr even if 4chan was ever good, it's shit now

Fappening is nothing wrong in the sense that this has been something going on since the dawn of paparazzi. Leaked nudes has been a headline for a long time. 4chan is nothing specially wrong or immoral here. Not sure what that has to do with anything. Not sure what that has to do with anything. I don't really like this new owner, but, do realize he was being pressured by the police anyway. He was getting the charges for hosting the site.

Still, that doesn't mean anything. What does this have to do with 4chan users and the overall tonality of 4chan? It's not like any of this is unique or blasphemous. And none of this had any real or significant impacts on 4chan at all. It's almost exactly the same.

Again, lots of urban legend-tier info being thrown around. The reason why none of it has changed is because the majority of conversation on 4chan is decently normal, just vulgar and almost completely unaffected by any of this.

man, i don't care about the people who use 4chan. there's no point even discussing that, because everybody is anonymous and nobody represents anybody but themselves. you seem to be misunderstanding me; i don't have any issue with how people act on the website, or what they say or do. if anything, i'm complaining about how that sort of freedom is being eroded; i'm talking about the site itself. as i said,

Politics, entertainment, music, art, business, anything. 4chan still retains a lot of it's free speech, but the real problem stems from the fact that 4chan was meant to be preserved. It started becoming pop culture. Ironic humor became a popular thing, and tryhards on Reddit and Tumblr tried to make it cool by being edgy. Give anything enough attention, and they have no choice but to cave in under peer SJW pressure. Look at anything that has a swift but powerful presence in the public eye. McDonalds, Politicians, Content Makers of all sorts, list anything. They are forced to be pro-SJW.

Same thing happened to 4chan. SJW's cry oppression and the government has to enforce it because we live in a shitty country (or are influenced by one) where whiny morons run the world. Afghan women not being allowed to leave their homes, be in a house without a man, or even talk to a man due to Taliban militia isn't as oppressive as the AC units being on. Liberals singlehandedly ruin the world in every way. The world wouldn't run if liberals had their absolute way.

in general, as long as the internet remains free and uncensored, there will always be places for proper discussion to take place, even if the well known ones become compromised.

4chan is as good as dead, so 8chan sprang up in its place. reddit is as good as dead, so voat is moving to replace it. even if governments do start to seriously crack down on internet freedom, there's the deepnet for those savvy enough to navigate it.

i wouldn't blame the liberals though; while they happen to be the ones getting all in our faces with their attempts to censor dissenting opinions, the powers that be will always grab opportunities to strip us of freedoms, regardless of the political direction they lean in.
