So, with the exception of the first AF event (fake announcement that RHGs are going Fullbody), and possibly last year (username manipulation and the site going full gay; which was more fun than funny imo), SP hasn't exactly gotten into the spirit of AF. The most common reactions are:

- "It's April 1 guys, check your calendar"; I'm so smart figuring this out that I'm going to tell everyone, defeating the spirit of the holiday and ruining all the hard work for the Mods.

- "Ugh. So annoying. Is it midnight yet? Can't wait till it's all switched back."; Honestly don't care about AF because I live in the slums below General and I just want to RHG or animate tests in peace. OR I just want the Chat Thread to be hunky dory again because I have a life story that needs sharing.

- "What?"; The joke was so way over everyone's head, nobody got it.



Every year, AF just seems to be something taken for granted. I mean, yes it IS April 1; that's the point. You pointing it out is like explaining the fucking joke. And whining about when it'll be over? Stuff like this only comes once a year at the hard work of the mods and Jeff; you don't see us treating your anims like shit when you release em, do we? Oh wait...

My point is, this thread serves to subvert anything they throw at us this year. Let's give them some perspective; throw ideas around and see what they can do to spice things up. Then maybe the mods can pick one of our ideas and run with it. One may question the point of the element of surprise if we are already not surprised. Well, there's no rule against pulling the trick on any other day that isn't April 1st, is there?

Unless of course they already have a thread in the cave, discussing it. But from experience, there is nothing highly elaborate in the works and that thread only really gets serious when its a week to AF. I realize, that by mentioning this, I am inadvertently baiting the mods to come up with a better AF so yeah. Just as planned.


OR, maybe you just don't want it at all. Let's just skip the silliness and save SP the embarrassment. What do you guys think?


So to summarize, we are to discuss two things:
1) Should there be an AF event this year? Should the Mods and Jeff bother?
2) And if there should, what pranks are you expecting? Give ideas, and discuss.

I honestly have been thinking of an elaborate RHG prank back then, but no mods were willing to help me with their animoo skills because the set up took so long.

Basically, I was to create an RHG. A shocker to most as I don't animate, but believeable if they saw how crappy my demo would be. I would use my charisma to talk a big game, then actually have other mods animate my on-purpose crappy demo. I would then actually challenge 1-2 people (of which 1 of them would be in cahoots with me so as to assure that I actually had 1 official battle).

Then, when everyone is enjoying themselves over my crap character, some bigshot animator like Terk or Oxob or even stone would come and challenge me. I would accept. And the anticipation would come on April 1 where some other awesome Mod (like Arch), animates an EPIC battle which was nothing like my previously displayed sucky skills.

This mod team is a bunch of cinnamon rolls, bless them for keeping the forum clean and so on. But your pranks need some work.

April Fools shouldn't cause a big change, enough for the people to do things differently (which is why you get "I hope it's over" complaints).
And yet it shouldn't be TOO subtle either (changing thread names? Isn't that what a mod with a sense of humor would do anyway?).

My suggestions would be something along the lines of maybe... once all of the mods changed their avatars and signatures to whatever Dudeman was having and got the black color of the name (which was admin color back then), so everyone kept mistaking us for Dudeman.

I heard Jeff put random cats on 2D's profile, so that could be a thing. A random kitty on everyone's profile.

Sorry guys, I accidentally voted yes. We could nose a forum wide game where if anybody refers to anyone else directly they get banned. And if you get banned, instead of seeing the notification that says you got banned, you just see a looping gif of the troll gif.

Horrible suggestion, but it was the best I could come up with.

Well.... on the one hand, April fools is... predictable. When someone makes a joke most people are prepared and not fooled. So one can say that pranks can be made regardless of date, so that they are more unpredictable. On the other hand if the joke is well crafted perhaps it can still be funny despite us knowing that it is one.
If you ask me for a joke idea though, then make PitchEnder or PersonMcPerson a mod or something.
I also second what Mantha said about the nature of jokes.

Well yeah no one will say they never saw a joke coming on April Fools. It's just a bit of fun. (Don't mod people for a joke though. Seems kind of... mean.)

Regardless, I think I'll do something on AF on my own, and I already have an idea.

Banning everyone and calling it an April Fool's prank is always a classic. Can't go wrong with 2007 style :rolleyes:
