Yo! i've been browsing stickpage for quite a while now, but only today decided to make an account and make my RHG.
So I did, it's now waiting to be verified by a mod, but I was wondering..
Everyone seems to use some pretty smooth animations for their RHG, especially on pivot.
And being a pivot animator myself, I thought, does it really matter that hard for people?
I mean, I know smooth animations look nice and all, but in your honest opinion: will a smooth, short and 'generic' animation beat a less smooth, more long, 'arcade'-y kind of animation?
For example, I made this for my RHG:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6y841hGWCGs
And please, telling me to animate smoother isn't necessary. I can pull off some really smooth, sharp, high fps animations with easing & effects and all that crap. It's just that I don't enjoy the result nor the process as much as I like making these kind of sprite-like anims. If you were to see the animation above, make it a lil' longer, fighting against some dude with sharp n' nice animations, but shorter and a lil' bit less action. Who would win?
Do you think my RHG has any chance in the RHG world? what can I do to improve my style?

I put the same effort into these posts as you put into your animation.
Is that fair?

Well what can I say, either you don't like it or my animation really is shit. I'll wait for some more opinions.
Took me a whole day to make and edit btw.. smooth animations don't feel fast paced enough for me.

Better than a lot of people on this forum, I'll admit, but it looked kinda fast. Personally, I like smoother animations. Or at least some variety in speed. (Combat fast parts, but then some slow parts.) It looked strangely ragged, as well. Is that because it was a .gif scaled upward?

A bit more movement would be nice, particulary in the effects (ex: when he was punching the black sandbag thing, at 0:11-onwards, and that weird yellow jackhammer (idk what that was, maybe a bit more detail on stuff like that?)And at 0:39, he did not move at all when he was holding the yellow thing with the rocks. Made it look like the yellow thing with the rocks had no weight at all. .

But that animation was enjoyable nontheless.
Hope this helps!

Thanks. I really like super-fast animations where you can't even understand what's happening, I guess i'm kinda used to that with sprite animations. I'll wait for some more opinions anyway..
And what do you mean by ragged? it was indeed a gif but I had no choice in the matter.. but I don't know whats 'ragged' lol

Like, when the stick was standing still, you can see the pixels that make him up. Ragged, pixelated, you know?

Damn, thanks. I'll put these into consideration in my future battles! Also, him looking "weightless" while with the yellow thing, might make more sense when you read the RHG page. He can solidify himself, making him weigh much much more than that jackhammer with the rocks(starting to seem like some excuse for shit animating tbh..). I could've put more effort into making him look solidified and weight-full, but tbh I just kinda got tired by the end of the animation. Will defenitely give all I can in my battles tho!
EDIT: it was some sort of a a jackhammer-thing idea by the way lmao.

Yes. Unless it is like 5 seconds long and the other is 5 minutes long.
Maybe you should've also posted this in the RHG section instead of the General section as well.
As it states in the title of the General forum, If it does not fit anywhere else, post it here. THIS IS NOT THE HELP FORUM.

Sorry, didn't quite get your answer. Did you mean "Yes, your RHG does have a chance, unless yours is 5 seconds long and the other is 5 mins"?

I think he means your style only has a chance if he has a shorter anim with less quality.

If you think it works and then give it a shot.
And remember you have to make the effort in order to get noticed, otherwise your character will have as much impact as spitting in a river.

I think your confusing terms a bit. Which is fair enough, most people do when there new.
Smoothness is nice but not required as styles like Pivotblimps and Nhazul's have shown. It's about making a clear, understandable animation that uses the basics (weight, anticipation, flow etc) with emphasis in the preferred area. Which can be smoothness but can also be realistic movements, stronger force etc.
Also keep in nd sprites can get away will worst movements do to better visuals. The sprites are alot more detailed than a stick figure but alot stiffer. It's a different style of animating used to capitalize on the strengths.

btw you should really be more imaginative with your moves. You copied Jack Bowser alot there (evidence: https://youtu.be/nOLQv_KS66E?t=18m24s) Like seriously, references are fine but that was alot of copying.
