Modified version of Devour's version of 'Hewitt's old forum game of Rumble'. I figured I could modify it a little bit more, create more tension and alleviate some of the bandwaggoning that I found quite frustrating.
Quote of Devour's explanation of the game
All players stand in a circular arena, ready to fight each other. After the game's over, everyone will battle each other by hitting everyone with basic attacks that do a set amount of damage... But the game takes place in the phases before the actual battle. We'll be running a number of rounds where people prepare for it first.
In phase 1 of each round, every player will post 1 EFFECT that they would like to have. These effects can be anything that you desire. You won't want anything too crazy though, because in phase 2, everyone will vote for powers to be veto'd out and removed from play. HOWEVER: If your power gets Veto'd, your character gains basic attack damage. The discussion and planning ahead that arises from this system is surprising.
You want to create the most absurd, overpowered fighter possible.
There will be 6 rounds of votes and the first 3 are anonymous*, the player that nominated the power is only revealed if/after they obtain it.
Again make powers in the context of fighting in an arena. After round 5 vetoing everyone playing will also get a chance to vote** on the player who has the most character-y powers. They gain a bonus 1 health to start the game. This is weak so you don't want to vote tactically and is mostly to encourage you all to actually build up a character instead of stringing together thematically unconnected powers.
This time we're on a spreadsheet :) so you can go crazy with the maths and stuff***. I'm also going to be updating the entire spreadsheet/game from start to finish after each round of voting and power allocation****. I'm hoping in the rounds 4, 5 and 6 this will create loads of tension with players literally able to see who's won as of the last round and having to respond to it.
Thus there is no 'pregame'. You are loading up your powers and seeing who will win at every stage. However all powers will be applied to round 1, just as in the last game, even though you will see the 'final' results of say round one powers as if they were the only ones when voting on round 2 ones.
During the combat as before each person by default basic attacks each other person once until there's only one survivor. I will extend the spreadsheet round list if I have to. So far it goes up to 13 rounds. You win by being the last person standing after all 6 rounds have passed and the spreadsheet reaches its final version. 'Winning' in the first 5 rounds counts for nothing.
Players start on 1000 health with 15 basic attack damage. Each round phase one you nominate a power privately to me in PM. Each round phase two you publicly vote on the revealed powers to veto till we reach a consensus. You get votes each time and then the powers with vetoes over a threshold 'and' the power with the most vetos (only if there is no tie but regardless of how threshold), are lost and instead the player gains 15 basic attack damage.
It is possible for all powers to get through if all get vetos less than the threshold and there's a tie.
1000 health per player regardless
Threshold and vote numbers for number of players in the game
6 - one veto and 3 votes to successfully veto
7 - two vetos and 6 votes to successfully veto
8 - two vetos and 7 votes to successfully veto
Highest voted score (even under threshold) if not tied also veto'd
If after the first round these allocations seem poorly done I may change them slightly. I'll try very hard to not mess with them once we're into round 2.
If applicable you can use multiple vetos on the same power!
I'm hoping to get 6-8 players.
Because I'm going to update the entire game from start to finish after each round of power acquisition I'm banning any and all chance based powers. This game needs to be 100% deterministic or I can't update it each round as the chances would jump all over the place*****.
You have 48 hours max to respond when needed for each stage and I'll leave talking to go on till you reach consensus. I also have stuff to do in the day and need sleep so the 48 hour delay might drag a bit due to my schedule, and I can be a little flexible waiting if needed. Please don't join the game if you think you might struggle to respond daily. 48 hours is a maximum, you probably want to chat and play the human element of this game more frequently than that.
SUMMARY
1000 health
You hit everyone each turn automatically - 15 attack then +15 if vetoed
No chance in powers
'Game' is all calculated automagically by Skeletonxf as we play 'preparation'
-Round 1, 2, 3
phase one: PM powers privately,
phase two: reveal powers annoymously, vote publicly till consensus, full reveal^
-Round 4, 5
phase one: PM powers privately,
phase two: reveal powers and who will get each, vote publicly till consensus, full reveal^
-Character reward round
Instant Run off voting to determine who made the most character-y character, they gain 1 starting hp^
-Round 6
phase one: PM powers privately,
phase two: reveal powers and who gets each, vote publicly till consensus, full reveal^
-Game over, whoever wins the automagically calculated fight now wins for real
^ - causes recalculation of spreadsheet
THE SPREADSHEET (Well, up to the first 13 rounds)
Pls be nice and reduce the turns needed to finish the game instead of increasing them
Oh and all attacks will be resolved simultaneously by default so if two people hit each other for lethal blows at the same time they both die. Thus with 0 powers in play and identical starts the game would be a tie.
