Firstly, AIDS is the disease, not the virus. The virus is HIV. Secondly, HIV attacks the bodies immune system, not the brain. If any virus mutated in the way you suggest, it would be rabies, which attacks the brain and eventually causes death.

I guess it depends on what your standards for a "zombie virus" are. Is a virus spreading through spit that destroys the brain a zombie virus? Does the virus have to make you crave human flesh? With no clear definition of a zombie it is hard to have a clear definition of a zombie virus.

I don't even believe in zombies. And if I would, I'd think zombies are people with ****ed up DNA, and HIV or AIDS doesnt affect DNA.

Noone here believes in zombies. This is a hypothetical discussion. And HIV DOES effect DNA. It effects the epigenetic tags.

@Alive: I think we are all talking about flesh eating, brain essential, shambling, mindless living dead when we talk about zombies. Not the brain-eating variety.

Well I doubt rabies would end up mutating into a zombie causing virus. But if so, I suspect it would kill the host soon after, and wouldn't make them that more stupid.

AIDS can't spread by biting people. You need blood to blood contact (not blood to saliva). So, case closed.

Actually, there's a tiny bit of blood in saliva, but at the current potency of AIDS, you'd have to have multiple gallons of saliva injected into you to contract AIDS, so right now, it's impossible. But say at a later date the AIDS evolves and gets even more potent to the point that the most minimal amount of a person's blood with AIDS could infect you.
