my philosiphy on the whole "higher power" thing goes as follows:
what I know, is that I am alive. what I also know, is that I will die.
whatever happens after i die is whatever happens.. couldn't care less, i've only got one life to live (as far as I know or care) and I'm going to live it without faith, because i have none.
Is pure Atheism a paradox?

I'll go ahead and say what everyone else has said before me: It is wrong that atheists claim they know there is no god. They just deny that there is one. You can deny something without knowing jack shit about it. When it comes to religion, none of us knows anything.

SOME Atheists.
The relative word being in capitals.

If God wants us to believe in him, why on earth is he keeping us in the dark? If he is not a coward, he should show himself.
Err... You're missing the point. The God of the New Testament values FAITH, belief in the face of adversity, which is different from knowledge. He only wants faithful people in heaven.

I fail to grasp your point. Some atheists are idiots claiming they know for sure that no god(s) exists, meaning the whole idea of atheism is a paradox?

He's trying (And failing) to point out that it is a logical conundrum to claim that there is no god, and thus all "pure atheists" should be religious.
I think it's an attempt to convert the "pure atheists" he speaks of.

Seriously guys, stop calling atheists idiots. There is absolutely NO logic in the 'way of god'. And logic beats all.
And atheism is only a paradox if God laughs at me when I die.

Dude, he wasn't CALLING athiests idiots, he was just repeating what he understood Steyner to be saying in the first post.

I'm sorry, misread the first couple. But the rest call atheists idiots.
And if you do that, religious people are just as idiotic as atheists.

Oh, indeed. I've been called stupid for being an atheist also. What makes it worse is when they ask why I am an atheist.
I usually respond with a quote by Richard Dawkins: "We are all atheists towards almost all the Gods that humans have ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further."
One time, the reaction I got was "No, I'm not an atheist!"
The general public, especially young and really old people, isn't used to applying logic to religion. In fact, most of them never give their religion any negative consideration at all. They accept it as truth and go about their merry way.

Looking at religion in retrospect is like looking at a large pile of Microsoft Millenium Edition discs.
I assume you nerds know what I mean.

What, we should be converted to scientology?

**** Scientology. If I join a religion, it'll be The Church of the Subgenius.
ALL HAIL BOB DOBBS!

You don't have to be all knowing to disprove an all knowing being that's invisible and has a zombie for a son...

No, actually Ash. It is nothing to do with conversion.
If anything it has been you who has been trying to convert me. I mean you even have swung the topic from questioning your belief to pretty much attacking mine.
If I had said "Atheism" and left it then you would be justified, but I probably should have place "idealistic" Atheism.
@Ghyygdodon. Seriously, you would have to be one of the most stubborn people that I know. You haven't actually posted on topic yet, but rather going off your nut and professing that Atheism is right and everything else is wrong, then that anyone else who says other wise is an idiot.
Denial doesn't = truth, hence why I have problems with Atheism as a whole. I can understand Agnosticism since they say that they have no idea, but aren't really fussed.
