No where in there is the synonym sound, sound is explained in the definition which makes them two different things.

Lets say that the tree fell while someone was next to it they would hear the sound through their ears. According to thesaurus.com sound and noise are different so that would mean if noone was around it would make a noise. So if a tree fell and no one was around to hear it would it make a sound? No. So if a tree fell and no one was around to hear it would it make a noise? Yes.
