Ok, but this doesn't address the issue of all sins being equal in the eyes of God. Was Hitler just as bad a person as I am because I did some manual labour on the Sabbath once?

Quote from JeremyIn my opinion, and in the context of the religion, you need to accept Jesus Christ as your savior and accept him as your lord god, to be considered a christian. The majority seems to understand this, and accept it.
In my opinion its the backbone of the whole belief system, and you cannot technically be a christian without believing those things.
Lol, Ive said in my opinion like 30 million times. But I get the feeling you guys are going to try and use it against me if I don't.
However, those are just your personal leanings. You agree that other people are allowed to have their own personal definitions of Christianity, right?

In my opinion, they can have their own personal opinions on what the interpretations are, but the backbone of the whole belief system has to stay there for the belief to be considered 'christian'.

@Zed. You might be a better person, you still have sinned though.
@Ash, well the point you are proposing would allow me to class all Atheists in the one boat.

But those "core beliefs" are just oppinion as well. You only arrived at the conclusion that those are the backbone of the whole belief system out of your own common sense, right?

I guess its possible for people to think the core beliefs of christianity are different, but they don't, its a simultaneous, near unanimous recognition that these beliefs are the core of the religion.

So, the majority says that you have to follow these core beliefs to be a Christian, then?
And these beliefs come only from the bible.
The source of belief that the bible is true is faith.
But you get to choose what parts to believe are actual events and which are "allegorical", aside from these few beliefs.
How did you choose those core beliefs?

Quote from AshHow did you choose those core beliefs?
By choosing the ones that suit you best at any given time.

Ive been over this already, the majority only agrees, they only observe the facts, I'm using the majority to back my statements up, not define them, do you understand that now? They don't make up the actual definitions.
I guess the interpretation is up the people beyond these things yeah.
There are some things in the bible that are backed up by history, I'm not going to list them, because I don't need to, I'm sure you have already heard of them or whatever and I don't want to get into a debate on sources. I guess people could use the historical significance as a way to believe the bible other than faith? But I don't that would be a majority. So I guess people believe the bible on faith. I still really get the feeling you are trying to lean this debate into faith again.
I cant think of a better way to say it than common sense, I know common sense is relative and all that but I cant think of a better word. So I used common sense to choose the core beliefs.

So, double post much?
Mar 23, 2009 1:09 PM #379440
Whoops, lol .

At this point, it's become more of me trying to understand you than actually trying to prove a point. You confuse me.

Lol, what are we even arguing about? If you would just ****ing tell me we could end this.
Different interpretations invalidate the bible? What?

Mar 23, 2009 7:04 PM #379620
Oh, I remember now. Different interpretations mean that the bible can't be used as a source of fact.
Mar 23, 2009 7:11 PM #379626
Oh, well I don't disagree with that.
