Am I creating false memories or did I read somewhere that turning a light on uses up the same ammount of energy as leaving it running for half an hour? That being the case people will only save half as much as they think they will.
Even if I'm wrong, I won't turn my lights off because I like being able to see and I know that the relatively miniscule ammount of energy my house uses won't make a damned bit of difference.

Imo, you don't see the point. This more like symoblic to remember that this planet may be in danger and something should be done, today. Cutting some lights a hour every year will honestly do almost nothing compared to the rest of the year, but it can make people relize that this stuff is important and power saving should be done every day as much as possible. There we got a source that really can make difference to global warming etc.

I can appreciate that the point is to make a statement that a lot of people want to see carbon emmisions reduced.
I can see that if two billion people do this then it will have an impact.
I can't see the differance that two billion and one people will have - therefore I shall sit here happily as a free rider enjoying my electricity while you all suffer for my benefit.

That's a myth derived from the fact that if you get out of a car for a few minutes, you'll use less gas if you leave your car running than if you turn it off when you get out and on when you get back in.
People don't get that the reason for cars being like that is that a lot of gasoline is used to get the engine up to running speed, but a light switch simply has to complete a circuit to allow electricity to flow.

I know are not as stupid as to not see that if everyone would think like that no-one would do it.
It's like this, killing one buffalo doesn't do a damn thing. I a whole country takes that into notice and doesn't consider that the whole country is thinking that way. Everyone will kill a buffalo or too.... get my point?

I realise that if my thinking were replicated then nothing would get done, but if I change my thinking it will have no effect on the rest of the people either. The same is true of voting. Imo there should be a law requiring you to vote but the voting card should have an "I don't care" option. The point is that unless you can find some way to get thousands of people interested there is no point in me doing anything as an individual.

That is entirely true, it would undermine you individuality. BUT you will have to take part into the collective.... it's the funny thing about human society, you can't do shit if you don't get other people behind your cause. But if you don't find the cause useful then I can only say: to each his own.

I'm sick and the only thing I have to look forward to is what's coming on after the commercial break.
So the Earth can suck it.
