I would totally do this, but it just so happens I have stuff planned tomorrow. I might turn some stuff off during another hour, just to feel good about myself.

And for you that don't believe turning lights on and off reduce total energy used & your electricity bill, this simple test with a "Kill-A-Watt" that anyone can preform proves it. The energy used at startup on a normal lightball that this myth is based on isn't big, at all. Well, if you expect to return to the room where you just cut the light within a second, it maybe can be discussed depending on with kind of lightsource you are using.
Myth butsed
So turning your electricity stuff down tonight will do something, don't worry.
EDIT: Would be interesting to see a test like this on computers etc to see if it's worth to turn on & off your computer when you are away a couple of hours or just put it in sleep mode or whatever that save energy best....

Seeing as my first little fact has been scientifically debunked, let's try another. Energy saving light bulbs won't save energy if your house has a thermostat because they work by reducing the wasted energy which is mostly in heat form. Your lightbulbs will give off less heat but your radiators will turn up to compensate.

I doubt that very much. The environment does not act anything like what was implied in "The Day After Tomorow". Climate change takes years, not hours.
In fact, now that I think about it, we could get hit by a bus tomorow. Or struck by a meteorite. Or one of a million things which could kill us. If we do, all the effort we put into saving the planet would be wasted because we would never see the benefit.

Well technically, preserving natural resources and being aware is mainly for future generations too, not because we would see it. Progress will be shown in years ...

We might not want to have children.
Why are we wasting what is quite a lot of money on hypothetical children?
Plus, how are they going to repay us? I have no intention of being cryogenically frozen so unless they want to invent a time machine and bribe me to turn my lights off it ain't happenin'.

Zed, have your last two posts been serious or are you just really that dumb?
Mar 28, 2009 3:08 PM #382179
"We might not want to have children"?
Not going to happen. It's for all future generations. Nobody isn't going to repay anything either. If payment is all you think of, then I feel sorry for you. You sound selfish and arrogant.
I feel like I'm being trolled.
