They don't because they're zombies. And zombies stick together.

Like glue.

Why wouldn't they? I guess there should be a reason like:

Smell
sight
etc..

Zombies don't attack each other because that would make survival too easy.

I base my zombies off the version of zombie Max Brooks designed in The Zombie Survival Guide. Determining the traits of a good zombie is like designing enemy AI in a game: you want to have the right balance of difficulty and ease of survival.

Another thought I had that I carried over from thinking about my single-player zombie game is to have one form of resource be "building materials". There'd be a "magic pocket" attitude towards carrying them, so players would be able to carry around about a ton of building materials on their person without it effecting their fatigue in a realistic manner, though they would still fatigue faster with building materials than without them. The player would use BM (Building materials) to build additions to their forts, such as small sniper towers on the roof of a house, or to fortify their house by boarding up windows and stuff.

The other resources would be assorted ammunition, food and water, and weapon maintenence kits.

Certain weapons would use only one kit, others half a kit, and others multiple kits. Food and water would be a completely generic resource, so all food and water replinishes the same amount of fatigue and health.

I saw that someone has mentioned explosives and how they could affect the game world, however I think that if you are going to have explosives and guns ect. Then you need to have the zombies respond to these events such as if they here a sound then they move towards the sound or if they see fire they move towards it. With that in mind it could add more depth to the sneaking around part of the game because you can setup traps such as fire pits with lots of smoke from tyres.

And if you can build forts and then defend them then would not the zombies surround the fort and were all your ammo down then wait till you starve.

You can also have different methods of travel such as car, horse, pushbike or on foot.

What about zombie animals?

Surely the zombies would bite animals too.

Imagine a pack of zombie wolves or even a zombie cat or something... killing it would be much harder as the animals would be faster and have certain reflexes.

I'm not sure if this counts as a "special" zombie or not.

I think it would be pretty cool if it was a free roam environment in a big city, and if you get bitten you have 10 minutes to find a cure. If you don't you turn into a zombie, and try to eat everyone. The game ends either when everyone turns into a zombie or when all zombies are dead/you completed an objective/you secure a house or something to live in. You then move on to a new level.

That would be good, but I think Ash is trying to stick as close as possible to the Max Brooks archtype of zombies and zombification.

Am I right Ash?

There is no way you can make an MMO, you dont have the manpower or resources to do such a thing, and the sheer amount of code and graphic and voice work and money required would be to great. There is a reason there is no 3D Zombie MMO, it simply cant be done. Zombies would have to have to have random respawn places, millions of different models, different stats, different loot and be like 28 days later style. If you even want for there to be novelty players. If not then you need lots of things that a small experienced company with a large budget wouldn't be able to do.

No, I'm just saying he cant do it with his resources, skill and time limit, nor with his budget, knowledge of the gaming world or many other factors.
