Much as I hate to go near religion on this, the argument "souls" has been brought to me again and again. The other one I've heard is sentiency. Proponants of either argument would refuse to accept the classification as evidence against them, so it can't be quite so clear cut. I kinda hope someone will bring them up because otherwise I may have to play devil's advocate for the sake of completeness.

Why did you quote my post with this response? The scientific classification is not up for debate. Humans and non-human animals are all animals according to the scientific classification that I said. Period. There are lower tiers to split off of underneath kingdom. If that's what you're trying to decide, be more specific. Otherwise, as stated earlier,

I am aware of the scientific definition. Humans are officially animals. Basically I want to know if there's anything that makes humans special (my thread was in before Ustartins. His is differant anyway. Ignore it.). "Are humans animals?" was prehaps the wrong question. Rather, let's use "Are humans like other animals?".

I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species. I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to an area, and you multiply, and multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet, you are a plague, and we are the cure.

The matrix quote is wrong actually. Just look what happened when mammals were introduced to New Zealand.

Animalia, Plantae, Fungi, Chromista, Protozoa

Those are the five kingdoms. Period.

Physical attributes are not important. Animals adapt to their surroundings whereas humans manipulate their surroundings.

But basically what separates humans from animals is written language, organized society, infinite curiosity and struggle for understanding.

We are all organisms. We are all living things who have evolved to suite our surroundings. It just happened to be, that we evolved into the superior intelligent species. Over time we continued to get smarter, we developed language, math (the universal language). We are curiouse of everything around us, and drive to know more, or to become more successful.

It is supposed that we evolved from animals similar, or monkeys, apes (whatever it was). We became more intelligent with the pressure of being forced to complete more and more difficult every day tasks. People are being born fatter because we arent hunting for our food anymore. Peoples jaws are getting smaller, because of the food we eat. If everyone began to travel around in machines 24/7 and never used their legs, then we would evolve and lose them.

We are animals. We just seem to be separated because we can make better technology than animals.

By the way, we belong to the Animalia kingdom. We don't belong to Plantae because we can't produce our own food. We just get from plants and other animals. Also, not in Protozoa: I can't describe why but we definitely do NOT belong to them.

I believe we are animals, I also believe that we cannot say we are not simply because we are smart. Sure you are smarter than a loin but if you got in a fight with it, it would slash your ass up.
We also can't know whether or not animals have the same feelings or thoughts as us for certain. Mainly because we are not those animals. In actuality we are just as pathetic if not more than any animal.

Most religious people who don't want to be called animals say we are not animals because we have souls. I think our mind and ability to think, imagine, and create is our soul. So from both a scientific and religious perspective, we are animals.
