View Profile I've never heard of children suffering from trauma after finding out Santa isn't real. It's not like they commit suicide because they find out there isn't a magical fat man flying around giving everyone presents at the exact same second in time. Experiences like that only give them a better grip on reality. I certainly turned out fine. My brother, too. My parents never told us shit. Most of the time, the kids find out on their own because they're old enough to be able to make sense of things by the time they find out. Even still, if a five year old catches their dad putting the presents under the tree, the parents can easily cover it up with another lie.
Just let the kids find out on their own. It helps them out in the long run.
I agree. I've heard someone, I can't remember who, say that it is good to let your children find out that santa isn't real, as long as you make it somewhat difficult, but still leave some clues, because it is builds healthy skepticism.

View Profile I don't think it should be done. I know it's all just for fun and stuff, but I think it's wrong lying to children like that. And christmas can still be a fun time even without Santa Clause or anything that comes close to it.
Yes, there is .

View Profile I think so.
So when they grow up and get that crushing feeling that life isn't gumdrops and rainbow smiles they know what to expect in real life.
I heard a comedian say something like that.

View Profile Kids should be able to think santa exists as young children,
but some parents just never tell their kids, and they end
up finding out in middle school. Of course this only happens
to extremely imaginative kids, who can go on believing things
forever. Santa is a nice thing to have at christmas, it's
always made christmas seem so magical, it makes
everything so exciting; waking up early in the morning and
rushing to the christmas tree to see what I got. It's kind
of sad now, knowing that he isn't real. Especially because
I have a little brother who still believes in him. I think the
idea of Santa and his essence exists; giving and sharing
and being nice and crap. I believe in Santa spiritually, not
as some fatass who comes down my chimney every year
and puts stuff in my socks and under my tree.
