I don't like hip-hop at all, I don't like it's instrumetals, neither do I like rapping. Rapcore is good sometimes, but nothing else.

Rap can be fun to listen to, but everything that people call rap now is hip-hop and all of it is shitty. Rap from the mid to late 80's and early 90's was the best. Not all of it, of course, but that was the golden age, I'd say. There are a lot of good rappers still today who don't have to use expletives or talk about bitches and violence, but they're underground and no one likes them except for me, apparently.

I have nothing against the artists or the genre. Well, I have something against Gangsta-Rap, but whatever. I have nothing against it, I just hate the music.

For God's sakes, rap and hip-hop are not two different things, dammit. Let me get this clear once and for all:

Rap is a completely different genre, hip-hop is the genre. Rap (i.e. to rap) is the style of music the genre is famous for. But because of that, the genre is often nicknamed "rap" since the style is it's claim to fame. So stop saying "rap and hip-hop". They are not two different genres. Jesus, if you're going to formulate an opinion, then at least know what you're formulating it about.

War pig, you are a dumbass. You obviously don't know any hip-hop songs except today's shit if you're going to drop a dumbass conclusion of all 90s songs being "olol world war 2 shit olo". The 90s is more where hip-hop shined (other than, of course, the birth of hip-hop) considering that during that era, the majority of rappers weren't clouded by materialism. What do idiots like you see in the mainstream of today's hip-hop, honestly? Everyone hates to have some jerk-off bragging about how good they have it, but when in musical form with some overly cranked up bass drum kick it's good? Honestly, you need to listen to some Jedi Mind Tricks, Atmosphere, Hieroglyphics, Krayzie Bone, etc. etc. People like you are the reason idiots on this site formulate a dumbass stereotype about the whole genre.

In other words he doesn't mind the genre as a muscial one, but the music that comes out of it at the moment is shit and therefore he hates it. The music not the idea behind the genre.

Gansta rap sucks the cock.

Underground rap however is alright, although it does seem more like poety then music.

He doesn't like the music, but he appreciates the talent that some of the artists have.

Also, I've read up on the history of rap and hip-hop. I have never heard of rap being a sub-genre of hip-hop before. I've always heard of it as a form of artistic expression completely separate from hip-hop until the late 80's, at which point the artists of both genres seemingly merged and frequently crossed over. I don't know, I've only done just enough research on it to debate superficially.

mu·sic [myoo-zik] –noun 1.an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.
And also, I've noticed a lot that many of the people who bag on gangsta rap are the same people who listen to hardcore metal rock (I'm not saying you, Steiner, I'm just bringing this up because you had it in your post. I don't know what kind of listen you listen to). It's quite ironic, really.

If you're referring to my post, I didn't say it was a sub-genre. I said it was the vocal delivery, the form of expression that many hip-hop artists use. I then went on to say that because this style is more the basis of hip-hop and is most common in it, the genre [hip-hop] is often referred to as "rap" as a nickname. And because of that, most of the sub-genres within hip-hop (gangsta, crunk, Christian) are followed by the word "rap" (gangsta rap, crunk rap, Christian rap). And I guess because saying "crunk hip-hop doesn't sound as nice as "crunk rap".

I agree with you on the part about it being the artistic expression, namely, the style they use to convey the lyrics of their songs. I don't know much of hip-hop past the 80s though, so I'll have to take your word on that merging part.

Just came by again to quote for truth.

but I'll elaborate on that list.

Eyedea & Abilities, Sage Francis, Adeem, Brother Ali, Aesop Rock, Mac Lethal, Murs, Aviation, Necro, Cunning Lynguists, Apathy, Celph Titled, 7L & Esoteric, Souls Of Mischeif, and Saigon.

I dont feel like listing anymore. Necro can be hit or miss, but on the most part he's great, if not disturbing.

Oh, and I dont give a **** about anyone's opinion about hip-hop, it's the only music I can listen to for every mood.

I have a soft spot for acrobatical lyricism.
