Money is just a big game of karma and luck. If you work hard you get promoted and you get more money or you can win the lottery LOL

I learned that on average in America, about 75,000 dollars a year makes people the happiest.

"money can't buy you happiness" is a zoinist world term, to trick poor, stupid people into thinking that they don't need money to be happy, so they dont strive to be rich, and makes poor people feel content instead of angry.

It depends actually. Money can buy you most of the things that bring happiness, example food, a decent shelter, anything you enjoy.
But there are a few stuff that money can't buy at all. for example TRUE love.

Happiness is composed of many different elements.
The most common ones would be happiness that comes with materialism/physiological need, passion, mental health and connection.

Materialism / physiological need
Generally speaking, happiness that is bought with money tends to be very temporary.
Humans, in nature, adapt to environments extremely quickly. So even the wealthiest environment will become a total bore to you sooner or later.
For example, notice how we are unable to be thankful for a comfortable life compared to the old times. (not that I wish to imply that we SHOULD be thankful)
However, when it comes to food and comforting homes, things are a little bit different. People are most likely to be mentally ill and unhappy when their physiological needs are not met.
But most jobs allow you to keep bringing food on the table, so one could argue that there isn't much point in being extremely rich. Personally, I think it's terribly boring to get anything you want.

Passion
This is when a person has something that he or she loves doing so much that they are able to focus for hours without noticing it. (ex) gaming, animating, drawing, making games, making shit some other kind of work that may not be art related etc
Personally speaking, I think people with dreamjobs are much happier than those with a boring job with a lot of money. Money can support this passion, but cannot create it.

Mental Health
There are just people who are genetically disposed to feel sadness more often than others. Unbalanced chemicals in the brain can cause clinical depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, borderline personality disorder, etc.
Money can afford treatments, but there are many mental disorders that cannot be cured entirely. Most people with mental illnesses desire happiness that isn't from money (or so I've read. You can prove me wrong on this one lol)
Delusional state of mind, at most times cannot be satisfied with money. Like being a total religious nut or thinking that he or she is the most popular person in the world or that the world is going to be saved by a huge spaceship in the future, etc.

Connection
This is where the argument of "Having a loving family is much better than being alone and filthy rich" comes in. According to Maslow's theory of self-actualization (which would be the ultimate happiness, so to speak),
happiness requires both physiological needs and the feeling of being loved. Humans in nature, are very lonely creatures (or perhaps we evolved to be in order to survive). It's hard to tell if the person who is seemingly
in love with you is investing his or her time in you for money or connection when you are rich as shit.

In conclusion, money does "buy" happiness to a certain degree. But it is evident that there are categories of happiness that money is unable to touch.
Happiness is also a subjective term so it's difficult to generalize. If I had a lot of money, I would travel around the world !

Intelligent and educated post, sir Oreo.
I agree, but I've been participating in this thread for quite some time and have determined for myself that money=/=happiness. But it would seem there's always more people willing to debate it time upon time again. I hope they take your post to heart as it is an extremely well thought out post and should be treated as such.
P.S. Welcome to stick page.

I believe money can buy object that can lead to your happiness, but what really makes you happy has to come from what you desire to experience.

money can never buy you happiness, besides with more money comes more responsibility and burden. if you possess lots of money, you will find it very hard to trust anybody. you would always think that the people that surrounds or close to you are like that because of the money you have. yes money can make you happy to a certain extent, but it can never buy you happiness. anyways the question is "what is happiness?" although some people may say happiness to them is having lots of money. but to what goal? to buy houses, planes, cars etc but all those things fade with time esp. if you have nobody to share them with. why do some incredible rich celebrities commit suicide? they have money shouldn't they be happy? don't get me wrong i'd rather be rich than poor; nonetheless, that doesn't mean i will be happier rich than poor. everybody have their definition of happiness but i will never believe an individual that says money will make them happy. (maybe in the short run).
Edit: and i completely agree with Oreo1- your post is quite enlightening.

yeah as i said you will be very happy, but happiness gotten from money doesn't last. let say for example in the process of getting all that money you lose all the people that truly love you unconditionally, after a while all that money, and everything else will seem meaningless. you may say "why can't i have all that money and still have the people that love me unconditionally" but let's be realistic many people drag their relatives, spouse etc to court just for some small amount of money and it's the same with the rich. they can even kill in the extreme of situation. regardless i will rather be rich than poor. although i say i will control my riches and use it to help my family and the needy, but who know... the rich always want to be richer; that's just human nature. i'm also not a socialite, but honestly speaking i want to be able to buy and do whatever i like. (doesn't mean i want to be fabulously rich, just enough to do whatever i want). very convenient, but like i said who knows, maybe when i can do and buy whatever i want, i may desire more money...

you know, i think its good when you're not rich or poor, since i travel with my family we are poor for a little amount of time, then we get rich and we have enough money to get tickets for airplane, but if youre always rich and you has lots of money that would make you want more and more, but what i do know is that concentrating on money wont bring you happiness, i know one guy who always have fridge full of tasty meals, his family is very rich and owns burger restaurant and sushi hut, but he sits on computer all day, he gets angry for nothing and he sometimes want to kill himself, he's an emo with no life or health, and i of course know that wouldnt make him happy, while another of my mates is very funny friendly and he helps his family, he does boxing and hes one very healthy guy, :) but for me happiness is when you are in love for a long time and you have family, that is what would make me happy, and those who are thinking if they have xbox, giant villa, good car, and all that shiz only sees happiness in material way.
