I've decided to make a knd of breakthrough for myself in mapping. This will be by far my biggest map to date. It's going to be the entire city of Mabase from the famous anime FLCL (Fooly Cooly). I posted this here because this is a work in progress and is open for discussion and suggestions.

Mabase:

Now how about some images? To give you an idea of how gigantic this ****er will be here is a quick image showing off the size. The purple dot is the player.

So on with what is done! I'll be posting tiny updates along the way along with the referance image I used. Let's get started.

First off, the underside of the bridge where Naota and Mamimi hang out.

Outcome:

(The yellow blocks are just grass and other models. That's what hammer does to prevent lag.)

And here is the area where the vending machines are near the underside of the bridge.

]To-Do List:
-3-D Skybox with MM plant and hillside
-Custom Textures for signs in the town and various places
-Make the MM Plant steam up and possibly have a siren
-Decide how I'm going to layout the key scenes (burnt school, naotas house etc.

Please note that this won't be only for gmod. Since it's a bsp file any source game can run it so it can be run in CSS, HL2 and so on however it's best in gmod. I'll be updating this post whenever I can.

This thing is FAR from Even 25% completed. I'm only really to be doing the good details on the key areas. I'm still thinking of how I'm gonan do the school. If I'm awesome I can even make the little worship firering Mamimi was in when praying to Canti.

I just started up Hammer again today. I got bored trying to configure it to TFC though, so I quit.

Protip: The new edition of Hammer can work for the EP1 and EP2 engine. For some reason you don't have to configure it for the EP2 engine. Just run it and select TF2 or whatever from the games and then when making the map be sure to use HL2 materials if it's a HL2 map. Found that out quick.

Thanks all for the comments, don't worry it's far from done. I just learned how to make a 3-D skybox and once I get the MM plant up which should be too hard, just some brush layered then use of the displacment tool and I'll be good to go.
