Religion is defined by something you believe in so, by definition, atheism is a religion. Evolutionism is a religion, just like Christianity or Judaeism. Basically, life without religion would be pointless. And plus, if no one believed that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, no one would go to heaven.
Atheism isn't a belief. Why is it that many are so keen on tagging it as such? Atheism is simply a disbelief in any supernatural being. Saying atheism is a religion is like saying not smoking is a habit.
What theories an individual may support is completely independent of it. You might actually find atheists who believe the world had no beginning and that it will have no end, or one that believes that the earth is a flat disc.
Evolution cant be treated as a religion simply because of the sheer amount of proof that supports it. The human tailbone is just one example among millions. The other thing about evolution that removes it from the tag of a religion is that no worship is required, and anyone that can come up with a better, more feasible theory and is also able to prove it is welcomed with open arms(in most cases).
