Edit: I'll post this in tue BSE thread as well.
So I'm gonna write what I was trying to explain to ACbeam yesterday.
I know the element is hard, I know that nothing like this has been done before, and of course it was going to be a challange, I knew that there may be a lack of entries because of this, but here is my opinion on what and why am I planning some things for the BSE. I kinda stopped making the last vesion of BSE, not because it was boring, the elements were fantastic and the combo too, I just noticed a repetitive loop in each round, same pro animators winning, no hard conecpt to apply, scores were only to laugh at someone else's face and say "I got a higher score than you", I realised that the scores prooved... absolutely nothing, really, what was the point of it?, at the end the guy who made more bse rounds would win, and only if you make like... 6-7 rounds out of the 10 that the BSE had, you could say:"yeah, I did learn something important to improve my animation skills".
Now that I had the honor to host this event, I took it seriously, I thought really deep about this competition and I wanted to do something new, I didn't want it to be repetitive, I didn't want to make it easy, I wanted each round to be a true challange for any animator that joins the competition, this is why I focused more on thinking in ways to help others improve by pushing their limits, you all saw the civil war at round 1 because of the scores. When actually the CnC from Arch-Angel was the most amazing thing a judge has ever done for this event, this represents what I'm talking about, everyone is used to have high scores and most of them completely ignored the CnC, for the ones who actually understood the point of this round, they were greatful and they understood why did they get that score and what did they do wrong in the animation and what do they have to change for future animations.
For this round, I wanted to test their creativity and patience, is a hard element and it has never been done before, I know that, but nowadays most of the animators give up on their projects because they "lack of ideas" or "I thought it was going to be easier" or "Is not fun to animate it anymore" and stuff like that, this round was aiming at that weakness, the ability to accept a challange, finish your animation, try something new, and the ability to make something hard to animate a fun activity.
And that's what I want to do, I want each round to be focused in some weakness that most of animators are facing these days, procrastination, creativity, fluid combos, lazyness, be open for challanges, and all of that. I don't give a snap about the amount of entries or the scores, at the end the one who makes more rounds wins the overall prize, I just want to push everyone's limits with these rounds and help them to improve as much as I can, because even if you make only 1 round, I'm sure you'll learn more than 1 thing to improve your animations' quality.
Now if most of you agree on that I should keep things as they were before, alright then I have no problem seriously. But I really wanted this to be something completely new and most importantly an opportunity to improve in every way. To make this BSE fun is up to everyone's actions, I can't tell them to "have fun" if they don't want to, so whatever the element is, is up to you to make it a fun time or not. I hope you all understood my point and intentions (even if my grammar sucks) ♥.
