Zed used to do that, but has now stopped, if I remember correctly, I think he said that people were half ingoring them becasue they were boring to read or something and that people didn't learn from that. Something along those lines.
I used to make critiques that analyzed every little bit of movement in some people's work, when looking back it was kind of useless/pointless.
I would slightly disagree with this. There are plenty of animators who have unique styles. And if you're a beginner at animation, it's not like you can create a beautiful work of art out of something that's not related to fighting if that's what you're implying. That's what fullbody is for..
I think he's talking about being original rather than taking from exact tutorials and methods rather than doing your own thing and just learning from the experienced. Fullbody is for people who want to do stuff that isn't stickfights. I dunno, stickfigure fighting is a strangely isolated form of animation that has it's own set of rules and standards, and every time im confronted with comparing someone's stickfigure style to a critique I'd give a fellow cartoonist I'm always just throwing out most of what I'd say because the ideas don't apply for what they're attempting.
Huh.
I know not everyone here only says the truth but we do have some decently honest critiquing here.
I like the term "sexybody" better.
just going off this I think most of the worst animators I've ever seen have used fullbody. Stickfigure animators are unusually modest for some reason, because it takes a lot of pride and determination to make your career into animation, and a lot of the people here have way more talent and potential than a lot of the people at my school.
