Exactly, the virus would be held in the "zombies" bodily fluids, and would infect others by entering the blood stream (Saliva into a bite wound) it's the same concept as getting rabies by a dog bite, they don't have hollow teeth like snakes to transmit their weapons, it is the saliva carrying the infection.

Also, poison is different from a virus, and venom (From a snake) is different from poison.

Believe it or not, venom is safe to drink so long as you don't have a small internal cut anywhere on the way down (Venom only takes effect when it enters the bloodstream, whereas poison can kill from skin contact, also I don't recommend drinking venom).

[Edit] By brain dead I just mean advanced functions. The zombie wouldn't be able to "think" per say, it would have the knowledge of basic movements and feeding instincts. It would see anything moving as sustenance (That is assuming that the brain functions include sight and hearing).

I was also going to say, that mutations do happen, especially and frequently to viruses and bacteria. An existing virus (or one not yet discovered) such as rabies could mutate/adapt into a new strain that creates 'a brain-dead zombie' (this could take millions of years). Or a microbiologist could bio-engineer existing viruses/bacteria to 'create' a "zombie virus"

Wrong, venom is not safe to drink, from the stomach the vemon will be absorbed into the bloodstream. Also, venom contains acid.

I'd consider zombification an injury. Quite a severe one too.

I think zombies are a kind of mutants(maybe?). But seeing as how mutation takes thousands of years, it might never happen in our lifetime. And as for the brain, our basic instincts such as walking, eating, breathing, seeing etc are kept safe inside our very own sub-conciousness. That means that even if they don't talk, they can eat!

If you got raped by a zombie you'd be equally likely to become infected. Cover your buttholes, people.

Or just get your zombie buddy to wear a condom. I mean, it's not like sex is an accident.
