I found a pretty interesting time-travel manga.
http://mangafox.me/manga/zipang/

It's about a JMSDF ship that somehow traveled back to time into WW2. I find it pretty interesting because right now I'm absorbed into WW2 stuff.

Is it good? I haven't heard of this one.

After reading it a bit, I'd say it'd be interesting to people who knows stuff about world war 2. It revolves mostly around the IJN and the American Navy. To sum up the first volume;

vol. 1 (Click to Show)

But yeah you'll need some WW2 history knowledge to make this manga interesting. You can read it without knowing, but eh.

will hitman reborn's fights ever be fast paced? I'm in episode 65 right now and it feels like I'm watching the dbz frieza arc and the arrancar arc of bleach. So much talk lol

The manga is faster

Alright, so this is directed towards you, Yalazer, and anyone else who enjoys Assassination Classroom, because I don't in the slightest bit like the premise of the manga but it seems to be insanely popular.

Can you guys tell me what it is you enjoy about Assassination Classroom and what makes it so special? Don't tell me what the manga is about, I already have a rough idea. Tell me why it's special in the most spoiler-free way, and I mean that in the kindest way possible.

You see, I found it incredibly hard to take Assassination Classroom seriously upon the first few chapters. The premise is that an alien is threatening to destroy the entire world, and he hires a class of high schoolers(?) and trains them so they can kill him. Now on paper, this seems like a cool plot, but the way its executed makes it seem very unbelievable and weird. Though it sounds like a dark plot, the atmosphere of the manga feels incredibly shounen and silly.

EDIT:
Just to add, I also feel like I'm being a little unfair to Assassination Classroom. It's shounen and has shounen themes, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing as long as its creative and keeps character development interesting. So far, the impression that I'm getting from others is that Assassination Classroom has great character development. My only problem is that it becomes harder to take the character development seriously when the one driving the character development is the one trying to kill them all.

Take GTO for example. Onizuka is the one that drives each of his students to change into better people. It makes sense because Onizuka is a delinquent adult, and as a delinquent he carries a degree of freedom and expertise that can teach individual students about their problems in unconventional ways. Its believable because Onizuka has a skill set that he can share with secluded students, and the students in turn have a reason to like him as a teacher since he's not willing to bring any harm to them in any way. The alien in the other hand shares really nothing in common with the students. In fact, the only initial relationship he has with the students is that he's willing to annihilate the entire world. While its believable that the alien might try to teach life lessons to the students, its really, really hard to believe that the students equally sympathize with the alien trying to kill them all. I just can't take it seriously.

So I say again: What do you guys enjoy about Assassination Classroom? Is there some rhyme or reason to the manga? Or is just as nonsensically unbelievable as it looks?

Now on paper, this seems like a cool plot, but the way its executed makes it seem very unbelievable and weird. Though it sounds like a dark plot, the atmosphere of the manga feels incredibly shounen and silly.

The simple image of high school students trying to shoot the teacher as the alien comes in seems so silly and weird because the idea is so abstract. The fact that the alien is making an effort to teach the students about valuable life lessons seems even stupider. And the fact that these students go through daily lives learning new lessons about themselves while trying to kill the alien seems so aggravatingly stupid. Now, I realize that realism doesn't necessarily equate to a better plot, and trying to add realism can often bring about a bloated plot and convoluted story-telling. That said, the premise of Assassination Classroom pushes this line a little too far. If an alien is literally trying to destroy the planet, why is the plot shaped like a slice-of-life lesson kind of thing where students learn from the alien? Why do the students literally treat the alien like a teacher? It's this perpetuating sense of "high school school life drama" emphasis that makes the plot really hard to take seriously as a whole, and the first few chapters don't reveal any sort of cynical nature of the students at all, something that would at least explain why the students are so calm and collected in the face of what's literally impending doom.

So I say again: What do you guys enjoy about Assassination Classroom? Is there some rhyme or reason to the manga? Or is just as nonsensically unbelievable as it looks, with nothing more than a shounen-esque atmosphere that takes advantage of common shounen tropes that appeal to a wider, younger audience?

eheheheh. it is probably beacuese the story is weird. it make you wonder. alien is evil, but alien is good. how come they could kill him at the end of the story? , who is this alien? , why is he so nice to people and and behave just like a normal teacher did? , why the faen he want to teach on kunugagaoka (didn't really remember the highschool name) school? so many question , and while you're wondering the answers of that question , the manga served you an uniques character and their own backstory in each chapter, like... i don't know, i think it is just flowing really smoothly each chapters. wich made me enjoy this manga. this manga doesn't have a great story , but it does have a good story and good character development. imo, if you can't enjoy this , then probably you're excpercting too much serious plot or something , so far.. (ch120) there wasn't any serious chapter yet expect
1 (Click to Show)
, but that was not really serious so , the rest of the manga is daily life of a bullyed classroom that must save the world while they recived a great lessons from an octopus alien. just like slice of life manga but with octopus alien

Alright, I can understand that. I added this a bit later to my previous post, but I'll post it again.

I dont know what and who is GTO and Onizuka is but you're basicly saying "why is this alien that want to destroy the earth? , but why is he is really kind and suportive to each other? , this is unacceptable!" right? (forgive me if i'm mistaken) , i dont know why is he doing that either , that what making this manga unique. i , and probably other reader too , guessing what kind of plot twist would happen at the end , cause there must be a plot twist , right? it is impossible to have a ending like

"i teach you as best as i can boy!!!"
*earth exploded*

no way it would end up like that , there must be a plot twist , a big one, so digging up this alien story and his weakness, and excpecting unguess-able plot twist at the end , while watching each character developed well is what made me keep interested

I'm not necessarily bothered by the fact that the alien has the motive to teach the students. I can believe that he could possibly have some hidden motives. That's perfectly understandable. What I don't feel comfortable with is how the students feel happy and connect with an alien that will inevitably kill them all. In any reasonable circumstance, high school students would absolutely question the validity of the alien, even if he was teaching life lessons. However, this isn't the case, and the students attach to the alien in stockholm syndrome kind of way. It just doesn't really make logical sense. Why would you like someone who's going to kill you unless you hate life or something?

hmmppp , you actually right. maybe.. just maybe

it's like you're gonna get executed , and you transported to the execution place in a taxi that driven by a chaffeur.
-you could be not friendly with the chaffeur (like terasaka and itona's does at the mid-early story)
or
-you could be friendly , learn his behaviour , and try to read the situation and try to compose the best way to escape from that taxi , and while you learn his behaviour by talking to him , somehow , he say the word that made you happy , like motivation , and all , and else. (like nagisa and friend does)

so , they never intend to become a friend with the alien , at first , they want to seek the alien weakness , the alien know , and he dont care , cause he think "whatever , youre never going to kill me , even if you're know my weakness" so the aliens act remain like an regular teacher and subliminaly the student become friend with the alien , while their still not giving up to kill him.

i know it is weird , but that the best explanation i got
sorry for my bad english , i hope you're understand

No, don't worry, your english is excellent for someone who's not a native speaker.

Can you answer this: Are the characters themed in a way that when they try to get closer to the alien, its clearly written that they do it probably for an ulterior motive?

no they are not , but the will to kill the alien is stated clearly , they act like a normal student and teacher , and when the alien do something suspicious or fishy or clearly that is is his weakness , nagisa will take a note of it and make a "Sensei weakness no.x" <== this note shows up from early chapter until now , and on serveral chapter , they really used that note thing to build a plan to kill sensei(alien).

I've already read the other two manga. In fact, I've compiled a list of recommended manga in the first post of this thread.
