Touching on this, I can't believe you've watched 506 anime and only recently have you watched Steins;Gate.

When I started watching anime I stayed away from really popular series because I was intimidated by them. Like I always thought that I'd be more disappointed if I watched something that everyone likes and didn't get it than watching something no one talks about and liking it/not liking it because it wouldn't really matter.

And then at some ppint it just slipped my mind that I hadn't seen it yet. And then I was reminded and I was like, I should probably go watch that.

That's pretty much the way it's gone with a lot of the shows I've watched with high acclaim. I watched a lot of them after a bunch of shows that no one ever talks about because those were easier for me to get into

shit story, shit characters, nonsense slapstick, didn't even make sense half the time

by trying so hard to be artistic they forgot about making it actually good also

flcl depicts adolescence with bursts of pure chaotic fun combined with melancholy bits
if you're looking at it like a typical "story" you're looking at it wrong
it makes perfect sense and packs more content into 6 episodes than most full-length series could ever hope to achieve

the characters were memorable as fuck, sorry that they weren't moeblobs like ika musume or chaika or yuru yuri waifus or some shit

bruh don't talk shit about ika

anyway, i didn't really know what flcl was about when i watched it and it didn't end up being anything that i found interesting or entertaining; ie. not my taste whatsoever. i'd have dropped it if i weren't a completionist

the entire thing is an allegory for growing up and most of the characters represent something
i can understand if you don't like that sort of thing
however even if you don't get into what it "means" i think it's still visually excellent and has an amazing soundtrack

i wish more anime was like FLCL. short and daring. a burst of raw imagination and creativity, even without a concrete "plot line." because anime is best when it does everything you can't get from books, movies, or real life, imo.

haven't watched it for years and years but it should be a pretty satisfying rewatch especially since it's so short.

Things like flcl are pretty hit or miss, I can completely sed why someone wouldn't have been into it. I thought it was alright tbh, nothing too special

Hm, Idk, maybe Detroit Metal City? That's the only thing that comes to mind when I think of something similar. Kill la Kill too I guess, with the whole underlying message and wacky delivery, but imo kill la kill was pretty lame

i was excited for Kill la Kill after the first episode aired and the hype was big for it to be like the new TTGL or something, but i ended up dropping it by the time the sixth or seventh episode rolled around because i realized that it wasn't going anywhere interesting.

never watched Detroit Metal City because i'm under the impression that it's a more straightforward comedy about a subject i'm not interested in (glam metal stadium rock type shit)

i didn't like Cromartie High School and DMC gets compared to that
