They *could* kill people? Well, they have just destroyed a half of the planet. So there is a high probability for them to keep destroying. If we would decide to take the risk we could be completely wiped out.

I feel like you're still not understanding me. In the original post, it says there are members of the alien species who have taken no part in the killing, and there's no outside information given to believe that they would do so.

Yes, but unluckily for them they are mixed with our enemies. It's like our society, I think a lot of americans disagreed about Hiroshima (that time victims were men, and it's another instance). We can't go there and separate all those who don't want to destroy us and those who think differently.

Actually we can, and it's not even difficult. The main reason so many civilians were killed in the attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki is because of the heavy stigma on giving up a fight for any reason in Japan, leaving and sparing their own lives was seen as a very bad thing to do, and essentially made you a traitor to your country. Nowhere in the original post does it say there is this kind of cultural attitude in this alien race.

Fuck it, they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

No. Leaving sombody of them behind such a destruction would mean create new enemies. They're not of our same race and I think they'll not forgive us for devastating their planet and killing such a lot of them. Those who we could have saved, if before were neutral or disagreed with the initial bomb, will become hostile.

Do you think these aliens are stupid? A large portion of them would realize that even though it was a terrible thing that so many of their fellow aliens (possibly even relatives) were killed, it was necessary to end the fighting.

Japaneses are men. I think that's important. It's not the same thing. Try to think if after the aliens destroyed half of the planet we had not the possibility to reply. Will you ever forgive them?

Easy to say that. What if they destroyed your half of the world with your family and you were for some reason on the other half or just survived the explosion; things change when you are directly involved.
I think our views are irreconcilable. You keep watching it with the same compassion if our enemies were men. In that instance I would have agreed with you, but that's another accident.
If aliens fit in earth's nature in my opinion they could hardly be our friends. Have you ever seen a pack of lions together with one of elephants or whatever? Races are generally rivals. With our intelligence we have been able submit some which now live in peace mixed with us. How could be a relationship with a race at our same level? It's right to try to cohabit, but this time it failed. We have to do everything necessary to protect mankind; men are your world, not aliens.
Maybe survivor aliens could accept the defeat, who knows, but it's a risk we can't take.
