I would think that they change their layout to appeal to their members and supporters which is probably why they ask for feedback.
Most people don't put their real names anyways, I don't. It's no longer a pedophile issue like how my parents would tell me. How they said dont put info on the internet because pedophiles will get you. I just don't like putting my birthday or phone number on things. I put my birthday and email. Everything else is usually fake because I don't like my information out there. I doubt anything will change with comments. I think people will continue to put what they always do.
I don't know why you feel it's necessary to change your font. It just makes it seem like you're trying to be ultra serious. I know that some people will just fake information, that happens with everything, but people who've already created accounts with their real name and have had the site start using their real name are still less likely to mindlessly post insulting drivel on that site because of the reduced anonymity. Just because it's not 100% fool proof doesn't mean it's not a good method for preventing that shit and shouldn't be used, if that's what you're getting at.
When I design new layouts for something, I run tests and get feedback from a
lot of people, any inevitably I don't end up pleasing everyone, because frankly people don't fucking know what they want. You have to push the boundaries and try something new, and you only know when you've failed when the backlash is so great that the only option is to revert and/or try again. The problem here isn't really with the layout, it's that no one likes change. I haven't seen many good points in this thread that have nothing to do with getting used to the way the new layout is set up. The only one I agree with wholly right now is that the layout is too much to one side of the screen, but that's arguably just making youtube fit in with the new design scheme google has going on for google+ and shit.
