Flash language
Basically this thread will help anyone that has doubts about some abbreviations that animators use pretty often.
I know just a few, but if you know about one that is not in the list, please post the acronym and it's meaning and I'll add it to the list. It'll be a pretty good way to learn more about flash and avoid the 1 answer threads.
There's also an "Animation concepts" list. This will include concepts like double framing, easing, smoothness, etc. feel free to give a good definition about it; if there's already a definition, but you think that you can give a better one (or add something else), post it too. I'll be updating this pretty often.
List:
- AS = ActionScript. It is a programming language that is developed to create interactions between various elements in the animation or game. ex- creating a simple button to play the animation or developing a game.
Currently flash has as high as AS3.
- BG = Background.
- CnC = Comments and Criticism. C&C is another way of spelling it. When people ask for CnC they're asking for people to comment on their work and point out it's flaws.
- CS = It stands for "Creative Suite". It's the line of products Adobe has been bringing out for the past few years. There's a Creative Suite 1 and 2, but Flash got it's debut in CS3 after Adobe bought Macromedia. Flash 8 is the last one that Macromedia released, then the programs started using CS3, CS4, etc. because it was licensed under Adobe and was part of the "suite" collection.
- FB = Full-Body. An animation that draws the whole human body in an animation, it's called a full body animation.
- .fla = It's the format of a flash file
- FPS = Frames Per Second. Is the speed at which an animation is played.
- FX = It's another way to say "Effect", is just a faster way to spell it. (E.G: Sparkles, fire, explosions, etc...).
- RHG = Rock hard gladiator. Section in SP where you can create our own fight in flash and animate it.
- SFX = It makes reference to any kind of sound effects that an animator adds to the animation.
- .swf = It stands for "Shockwave file", and it's the file that results from a .fla
- WIP = Work in Progress
- V-cam = "Virtual Camera", where only the area within the vcam will be shown in the final product. Can be used for canvas movement, force (shaking the camera), etc. There are different vcams for different actionscripts.
Animation concepts
(Screenshots and animation examples will be added)
- Anticipation: (animation examples will be added)
Is acceleration and deceleration around your movements. Easing in, is going from stationary/slow to a faster pace, and easing out, is going from fast to a slow/stationary state.
- Choppy:
'Fixing'
- Double framing: (Adding more information)
To multiply a frame twice it's length, making it last 2 frames while keeping a single content. This is mostly used to add more force to a hit, or make a movements slower, sometimes, your animations will need to be "double framed".
- Easing:
Easing is the correct positioned movement of a dynamic factor

WIP - Work in progress
FPS - Frames per second, the speed at which an animation is played.
Simple, but simple is good when you're starting out.
