Most of the "artists" with low skills are mostly very young newcomers. Those who praise it with probably are the same age, artistic level, and/or are friends with said "artist".

Quote from HewittWhile we're at it with these changes, can you guys also enforce the "One User = One Art Thread" rule? It's been brought up many times in past discussions, and it will certainly help out with filtering the garbage threads. It also encourages improvement so people can see how well you're doing over time. And then you can infract people for not doing this and spamming threads or something.
I'll look into this. Luzoto split half the show-off section with me and left the art section in my care, so I'll be handling what goes on here for the most part.
I don't know if this idea will be an issue that must be dealt with top administration, but it's definitely something I could tryout.
Quote from ProxusAnd i thought the beginner thread you made would give the unskilled a chance to learn and to let the skilled teach and show in the section. But they kept on posting thread and only getting recognition from each other.
The thread you made didn't have enough hype or interest, so i propose you try that again, but actually attract those beginners.
I'd like to gain the users of the art section's trust first before I start something that generally relies on activity to keep afloat.
Rest assured, I will try something like that again in the future, but I don't think now would be a good time.

I like this idea, so would you just bump your thread if you make a new piece of art to get criticism?

while I highly agree with your statement, I do feel like beginners will simply not care, and will most likely take this as a mere insult to them.

Altrough i agree with your opinion, those you called "art" aren't that good either. I mean they aren't like "HOLYSHITYOUARETHENEXTDAVINCIFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKGIVEMEASON". They're good, but they can be better...
But yes. You, sir, are goddammed right.
Also, there are times when those "artist" just don't want to accept any criticism unless that criticism is "pretty cul, i laik it, Lulz".
Once i gave CnC to an art i found, and the f***er just didn't wanted to receive that kind of criticism. Here's the example:
POST:
Okay, he asked for CnC. and i gave to him some damn CnC.
Well, after all this CnC, what was his response?
WUT. But wait, there's more.
Other guy (Shensurei) also had the same tough has me.
DA' HELL. This makes me think that people only post some sh*t so they can hear people sayin' "gud job dud i laik it i dun't know anything 'bout drawing but well lulz".
Seriously, like Scarecrow said. If you aren't going to put much effort to what you do, don't do it... or at least don't post it hoping people will say "good job".

Some people want others to kiss their asses.
And I'm not going to do some art, mine is absolutely terrible.

No, you should do it. Even if your drawing is bad, you can give yourself CnC on what probably went wrong with the picture and try not to make the same mistakes, then draw another one and another, until you can finally decide its good enough for the art section, which then, other people would be able to CnC it besides you.

I've re-posted a stickied guide to critique for scenario such as this.
Hopefully people will read it and improve their giving and taking of CnC by understanding the line between good and bad critique.
There's only so much I can push people to do, and there's only so much I can enforce; you people have to start making efforts on your end as well.
Show the art section some love.

Quote from LFlL0Tite kubo's one of the best mangakas i ever seen. right now, he have the most realistic drawing from the actual mangakas.
Kind of off topic, but I feel like I have to say that Takeshi Obata is way more realistic. Especially in terms of proportion and anatomy. He also draws a lot of difficult angles just because he can and has he also draws very detailed and complicated backgrounds for his manga. Also, because of his penchant for fashion, he often draws excessively detailed outfits and clothing for his characters, sometimes to the point of using real Japanese clothing brands.
And he most certainly is an "actual mangaka" being the mentor of Nobuhiro Watsuki who created Rurouni Kenshin.
Anyway, what Xero said is true. If someone doesn't accept criticism, explain to them how it works, or maybe link them to the stickied thread.

With "actual mangakas" i meant mangakas that have a running manga right now... Obata is my favorite mangaka, also the best of all time ._.
If they ask for criticism, they should accept what they get... a lot of people just want to get their ass kissed, literally.
