I dunno, but I just can't grasp the concept of walking.
I always end up screwing it up one way or another. All the tutorials I've looked at haven't helped.
It seems I always make the same mistake of freezing the persons back leg whilst moving his front leg, resulting in the body leaning forward, and it looks plain retarded.
And I always make this same exact mistake every time. Any suggestions?

Animate the legs first. Specifically the fixed leg. It should lean forward at a steady pace. Also, the moving foot should never go much higher than the fixed leg's ankle.
Walking is extremely hard to get down, and really, the only way to get good at it is through practice. Reading tutorials does very, very little to help.

How do you create a stickfigure that has moving joints like in Pivot? I'm sure it can be done, but if I remember the joints stopped working with each passing frame.

You've got to make it using the line tool, and make sure the joints connect and everything.
Then, if you want to move it, select the white cursor thing, not the black one that you usually use, and click on the stick.
You can drag the little boxes at the end of each line segment to move the section.

But, the white cursor also stretches limbs out, so make sure you're careful not to resize the limbs a whole lot.
And thanks for the advice, Exilement. Will do.

I seriously don't know what causes those little squares.
However, you did not spend 6 hours on that avatar. That much is extremely obvious.

I'm pretty sure the white boxes comes up if you export an Animated .GIF with gradients.
