I haven't played the original mod. If I'm recommending it to somebody, would I recommend playing the original mod first, then the Steam one, or does it not matter?

The mod is basically the new one, minus some endings, all the easter eggs, and all the achievements. If you are wanting the full experience then go play the new one, but I'm just expressing the fact that because I've played the old one, the new one doesn't sit right with me.

Also like to point out that with the exception of Steam Achievements, the mod had the capability of doing everything the new one has. Now I'm not asking that I wished the new one had been an exact replica of the mod. Just that I thought it was headed into another direction entirely.

It'll probably take awhile to compile a top 20 for 2013 of my fave indies, but I gotta say for coming out in January nothing truly compares to Antichamber. It was for awhile my personal favorite until Gone Home transcended my expectations

Am I the only one who thinks that modern Alien universe games miss the point of what those games should be? Colonial Marines is just-another-FPS-game (but even worse), Alien: Isolation is a horror-survival game with crafting and I would be okay with that if it wasn't a generic standard already!

As for me, popular indie games seem to dictate some suckish standards.

Explanation and examples on your thesis statement pls

Minecraft (re)introduced the crafting system to the audience. A lot of developers thought it was a way to make game look cooler to the people and to have more money (look, we have crafting system and that means game is not so bad).

Slender, Outlast and other independent horror games have shown that it's really easy to make a horror-game popular by just putting a lot of screamers there. Well, at least there's some effort in Outlast, but my God, Slender...

Slender and Minecraft clones are made by everyone today with no effort and thought put into them whatsoever. It's driving me mad.

P.S. But there are some decent games about Slenderman, after all.

It kind of just sounds like you're just generalizing the whole indie-genre into Minecraft, Slenderman, and other typical indie horror games.

Several indie games like Stanley Parable, Papers Please, Rogue Legacy, Fulgor the Viking, Gone Home, and more are all indie games that have been on people's top 10 list and even nominated for GOTY. Hell, an Indie game won GOTY in 2012 on many different official websites.

You're explanation just sounds like an extremely gross misinterpretation and generalization of the whole genre. And the point of Indie or rather games in general isn't necessarily to make it look like the most beautiful thing you've ever seen. The game could literally be about a dot, and if it's smart, creative, and fun to play, then it shouldn't matter how superficially complex it looks.

I start to like those games less and less because so many little kids are playing those games.

Minecraft in general is boring unless you plan on making something cool. Then again, every time I want to construct a huge object, I just give up.

Slender is a simple and fun horror game, but once you start playing it too much, it becomes predictable. It always gives me the heebie-jeebies when I play it though.

I don't play these two games anymore though. All I've been playing lately is Team Fortress 2 and Borderlands.
